Afghan photojournalist Shah Marai sent the WhatsApp message Monday to a colleague stuck in traffic, trying to reach the scene of a suicide attack in Kabul.

Media watchdog Reporters Without Borders said along with the nine journalists killed, six were wounded.

Angus said that Shah had worked for the BBC for two years and had "already established himself as a highly capable journalist".

Another problem is the terrorists are now specifically targeting Afghanistan's fragile, fledgling democracy.

Here are brief profiles of the ten journalists killed across Afghanistan on Monday.

The number of bombs dropped by the Western coalition in Afghanistan in early 2018 was the highest it's been since 2013. He said the second attacker was on foot in a crowd of reporters, pretending to be a member of the press, when he set off his payload.

The French news agency Agence France-Presse said its chief photographer in Afghanistan, Shah Marai, was killed.

A second bomber then detonated explosives after reporters and photographers gathered at the scene, according to Reuters, killing nine journalists.

In some Afghan provinces, it said, the Taliban forced the media to pay arbitrary taxes that were tantamount to ransoms. Journalists in Afghanistan, he said, were "family".

The Islamic State outfit has reportedly claimed responsibility for the twin attacks.

The Shashdarak district also houses the defence ministry and a Nato compound. Or else, terror strikes will be the order of the day with no signs of any cessation of mindless suicide bombings.

According to the media outlet, the Taliban radical movement said it was not responsible for the shooting. BBC World Service Director Jamie Angus called it a "devastating loss". It's a time of anxiety. The 29-year-old was on his way home when the attack occurred.

Eight journalists and four police officers were among the dead, interior minister spokesperson Najib Danish told the BBC. Journalists rushing to cover the first explosion were killed by a second bomber posing as a cameraman. The statement, which exaggerated the overall death toll as militant claims often do, did not say journalists were specifically targeted. Due to this attack, 11 children from a nearby school were being killed. But it was the Taliban who perpetrated two infamous atrocities in January.

The attacks, a week after 60 people were killed at a voter registration centre in Kabul, underlined mounting insecurity despite repeated government pledges to tighten defence.

Rising oil prices will translate into higher U.S. gas prices this summer driving season, private analysts and the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) project. Last week, six people, including two Afghan soldiers, were killed in a car bombing in Helmand province.

Sediqullah Tawhidi, an official from the committee, said a cameraman form the local Tolo TV also was among those killed.

No one claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The IS affiliate in Afghanistan had originated just a few years before in Nangarhar.

IS and Taliban carried on with their frequent attacks. He commands United States forces and NATO's non-combatant operations in the country. We mourn for those murdered, including the brave journalists who stand for truth in the face of violence.

"All governments must condemn the killings, and public and private donors should provide emergency support to the press in Afghanistan". That attack wounded 16 others, including five Romanian soldiers.
