UK helped fake Syria gas attack: Russia
Hundreds of Russian contractors and mercenaries are reported to be working in Syria. Russia's military said Syrian air defense units downed 71 out of 103 cruise missiles fired by the allies.
According to a statement by the French presidency, Mr Macron called for dialogue between France and Russia to "continue and intensify" to bring peace and stability to Syria.
As it looked to head off the threat of Western strikes, Syria said it had invited the OPCW to visit the site of the alleged attack in Douma, a town in the Damascus suburb of Eastern Ghouta that is on the verge of falling to the regime after a long and bloody siege. Government forces deny using chemical weapons, as does Russia, which backs Assad in Syria.
Syrian forces fired 40 surface-to-air missiles during the operation, mostly after the attack was over, he said. British officials said up to 75 people were killed. In all, the Navy launched a little more than 100 Tomahawk cruise missiles from destroyers in the Mediterranean Sea.
"The president is sitting there on Twitter taking such decisions that whole world are horrified by".
He added: "Surely the lessons of Iraq, the lessons that came there from the Chilcot report, there has to be a proper process of consultation". "We have a lot of options, militarily", he said. He has previously told his national security team he wants US troops to exit Syria within six months.
Hours after the attack, the Army of Islam rebel group, which had controlled Douma since 2012, agreed to surrender and evacuate its fighters to rebel-held northern Syria.
But his latest victory - and that is how President Assad and his supporters will see this - was achieved in a brutal fashion.
The government said it is "highly likely" that Assad is responsible for the Douma attack, with ministers agreeing "it was vital that the use of chemical weapons did not go unchallenged".
"We can say that the Syrian government was behind the attack", State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said at a briefing. He said the alleged attack had been "staged" by foreign intelligence services.
Stock futures dropped on the updates, with both the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average trading down 1 percent.
With the UN Security Council failing thus far to find a diplomatic solution, Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned Wednesday time was running out. A resolution needs at least 9 "yes" votes to be approved.
When pressed, he acknowledged that some unspecified portion of Assad's chemical arms infrastructure was not targeted. Israel has not confirmed launching the attack, which reportedly killed 14 people, including seven Iranians. It was not clear whether the presence of the investigators could affect the timing of any U.S. military action.
"When our president draws a red line, our president enforces the red line", Haley said.
Although the Obama administration ultimately refrained from taking action, the Assad regime-and as importantly, its backers in Russia and Iran-spent nearly two weeks unsure of exactly how devastating the response might be, at a time when the insurgency still posed an existential risk to the regime.
Ibrahim al-Fawwal, a resident, said he left Douma in 2015 because he couldn't bear living under the Army of Islam. The U.S. says it suspects that sarin gas also was used.
"We need to cooperate", Ryabkov told the Russian newspaper Kommersant. "No other group" could have carried out that attack, she said, adding that the allies' use of force was "right and legal". "The poisonous substances were only in their hands", the politician noted.
Mark Zuckerberg and US senators inspire endless memes — Facebook
There's also a way to check manually. "Your user agreement sucks", Senator John Kennedy, a Louisiana Republican, told Zuckerberg . The social media service is constantly battling "people in Russia whose job is to try to exploit our system", Zuckerberg said.
The Reds anxiously wait for Mohammed Salah's injury report
Isco, 25, recently scored a hat-trick against Argentina for Spain but it was his post-match comments that made the headlines. A high-intensity start for the Reds was enough to blow their competition out of the water in just 30 minutes.
Chelsea boss Conte loses rag with striker Morata
Gone are the days when Chelsea were blessed with goal scoring midfielders like Ballack, Di Matteo, Essien, Lampard, or Poyet. Willian's recent form has vastly outshone anything that Pedro has been able to produce in a Chelsea shirt, even last season.
US says it has proof Syria government was behind gas attack
That's likely a reference to US smart bombs that, typically, can evade missile-defense systems and then precisely hit a target. President Trump says his predecessor could have ended the Syrian civil war. "We're obviously looking at that very closely".
