FBI raids offices of President Trump's personal lawyer

GettyDonald Trump has called the raid on Michael Cohen’s offices a “disgraceful situation.”
Trump also revived his broadsides on Rosenstein as well as Rosenstein's boss, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, whom he belittled to confidants for recusing himself from the investigation and, in turn, delivering him to Mueller. He called Mueller's investigation "an attack on our country".
Cohen's attorneys were in court Friday seeking a temporary restraining order in New York to halt investigators' review of the seized evidence. Cohen has been involved in Trump's murky business dealings with Russia, along with his childhood friend, legitimate businessman Felix Sater, who once stabbed a guy and was also convicted of a mob-linked pump-and-dump scheme.
Also seized in the Monday raid were tax documents and business records, and communications between Cohen and Trump, reported the New York Times, which broke the story of the office no-knock raid.
The Shatayners fell behind on monthly payments on their loans to Signature Financial, and in 2016 the bank sued them. In some cases that scrutiny may be minimal, in other cases, such as Paul Manafort, it could mean substantial criminal charges that likely never would have been brought but for Manafort being connected to Trump's campaign for a relatively short time period.
Search warrants are a fairly standard, though aggressive, law enforcement tool and are often sought in cases where authorities are concerned someone may hide or withhold evidence. Last month, medallions sold in foreclosure for as little as $175,000 and an average of $355,131, according to city records.
"Absent a search warrant, these records could have been deleted without record, and without recourse", prosecutors wrote. They also co-own property with the Cohens in Trump Tower in New York on United Nations Plaza.
"Today the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York executed a series of search warrants and seized the privileged communications between my client, Michael Cohen, and his clients. Perhaps more pertinently, Cohen facilitated hush payments to women who had sexual encounters with Trump. Pressed on this claim, she said, "We have been advised that the President certainly has the power to make that decision".
Daniels has said she had sex with the president in 2006.
But the president's ire has been directed at Mueller and his boss, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. "So the idea that Mueller raided Cohen is wrong". The raid on Cohen was not carried out by special counsel Robert Mueller's team.
Avenatti also enclosed an email showing Cohen had used his Trump Organization email address in correspondence with a representative from First Republic.
It should be noted that Eisen, a former ethics lawyer in the Obama White House, and Bookbinder and Shaw, who both work at the public-interest group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, are all prominent critics of Trump. What that something is presumably will only become clear when Trump faces his day of reckoning with Mueller.
