Allies condemn nerve agent attack — Russia spy

Some 180 troops including chemical warfare experts are in Salisbury to investigate the attempted murder of Russian ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter

He said, " London has nothing substantial to show, and all its loud accusations are nothing but fiction and another instance of the dirty information war being waged on Russia.

Russia has denied all allegations that it was a state-sponsored revenge plot to kill a "traitor". And, why do so in a way that was bound to prove so alarming to the Western powers?

The leaders of Britain, France, Germany and the United States said there was "no plausible alternative explanation" for the use of the Soviet-designed nerve agent Novichok in the English city of Salisbury.

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson told the BBC that Britain is sending a sample of the nerve agent to the watchdog for examination.

"This was not just an act of attempted murder in Salisbury - nor just an act against U.K.", May said on Wednesday.

The apparent transatlantic willingness to square up to Moscow was bolstered by the announcement from Washington that it had placed sanctions on 19 Russians and five organisations, among them Russia's intelligence services, for meddling in the 2016 presidential election and a two-year campaign of cyber attacks on the American power network, including nuclear facilities. The agency said in October that Moscow had completed destruction of the stockpile.

May's office said in a statement that she discussed the investigation with France's Macron on Thursday morning. Sergei Skripal, 66, and Yulia Skripal, 33, remain in a critical condition in hospital. Relations between the old Cold War foes are already poor and short of military action the alliance has little leverage.

At the same time a separate probe was opened into the mysterious death of Nikolai Glushkov, a Russian exile who was found dead at his London home this week.

Speaking at an event in Moscow on Thursday night, Vladimir Putin said Russia is a "proud" nation "and will be in the future, too".

"Let me make one thing clear from the very beginning: the United States stands in absolute solidarity with Great Britain", Haley said.

Asked how Russia would respond to the current diplomatic crisis, Mr Yakovenko said: "Our policy will be quite balanced, we have strategic patience".

Britain accused Russia of involvement in the nerve agent poisoning of former double agent Sergei Skripal at a time when London's ties with European partners have been badly strained by Brexit.

Moscow will soon take retaliatory measures against Britain regarding the spy attack row, she said.

Thus a certain level of trust is involved.

The door sign of the Russian Consulate in London, Britain, March 14, 2018.

"Well he's a nice man, I'm told, maybe he wants to claim a place in history by making some bold statements", Mr Lavrov said. "Theresa May's main argument about Russia's guilt is 'highly probable', while for him it's 'Russia should go and shut up'". Mr Williamson studied social science at the University of Bradford.

But Britain faces an uphill battle in rallying international backing for any new measures against Moscow.

NATO allies on Wednesday put out a joint statement condemning the attack, and Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said it must have "consequences".
