LIVE UPDATES: 2018 State of the Union address

WASHINGTON DC- JANUARY 30 U.S. President Donald J. Trump claps during the State of the Union address in the chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives

In his first State of the Union address, Trump proposed four pillars of immigration reform that include a pathway to citizenship for almost 1.8 million illegal immigrants - known as 'Dreamers' - who were brought in the US by their parents at a young age, border security, ending the visa lottery programme and limiting family-based migration.

This year was no exception, and in fact, the approval rating for Mr. Trump's speech was slightly lower than that received by his two immediate predecessors. "This administration isn't just targeting the laws that protect us, they're targeting the very idea that we are all worthy of protection".

Trump has long been obsessed with ratings, from his "Celebrity Apprentice" show on NBC to presidential debates. He singles out individual FBI officials for accusation and abuse on Twitter.

Trump called repeatedly for bipartisanship.

"I think manufacturing is a big driver here in Northern Colorado", he said.

"You know, the Democrats are AWOL".

However, Austin sophomore and President of Baylor Democrats Jake Bridges said he believes that so far, Trump's presidency has been divisive and largely unproductive. That speech was watched by nearly 47.8 million people, according to Nielsen. A necessary step, he said, so "American companies can compete and win against anyone else, anywhere in the world". And they forever remind us of what we should never ever forget.

The White House's immigration plan is not a "compromise".

For decades, he lamented, "open borders" had allowed "drugs and gangs to pour into" the United States. Washington and John Adams, his successor, both gave the speech in person, but the third president, Thomas Jefferson, decided to give a written message instead. He referred to "immigration" 11 times and "terrorism" nine times.

The partisan standoff caused a partial shutdown of the federal government for three days last month after Congress failed to pass a stopgap spending measure needed to keep the lights on at federal facilities across the country. But it also serves other purposes. Lindsey O. Graham, R-S.C., and Richard J. Durbin, D-Ill., have been working on, and that Trump blew up at the infamous "shithole" meeting. They are strong moms and brave kids.

Many Republican lawmakers are wary of taking on any debt to pass such a bill and funding sources will be key. "We need solutions, not to be blaming our community members". He pointed out he has cut regulations and appointed a Supreme Court justice as accomplishments Republicans could tout on the campaign trail. The two clubs hosted an event together last semester and have recently scheduled a "bipartisan dinner".

The state Department of Environmental Protection and the Board of Public Utilities will begin drawing up a game plan to re-enter the pact. He talked about "why we salute our flag, why we put our hands on our hearts for the Pledge of Allegiance and why we proudly stand for the national anthem", indirectly reinforcing his stance on the National Football League players who took a knee during the anthem.
