Memo 'totally vindicates me — Donald Trump

House Republicans release partisan Nunes memo on Russia investigation

Law enforcement officials fear that Trump may try to use the memo's release as justification to fire Deputy Attorney

In what was pretty much an inevitablity, President Trump tweeted on Saturday morning that the long-awaited Nunes memo, released on Friday, singlehandedly cleared his name in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russian electoral intererence.

Maybe so, but even then it remains unclear - going by the memo's contents - what precisely investigators presented to the court as they successfully sought three renewals of the initial warrant at hearings after the November 2016 election.

Durbin contested the suggestion that the FBI's application to a special court for authority to surveil Page failed to note that the request was based partly on a dossier funded by Democrats.

On Saturday, Trump took to Twitter to claim the memo "totally vindicates" him.

"I would argue it's also somewhat unprecedented to rely on political opposition research to instruct and inform an application, and it's really bad precedent and unprecedented to not tell a court that a source has this level of bias", said U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-South Carolina).

The FBI on January 31 took the unusual step of publicly opposing the release of the memo, saying it demonstrated "material omissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memo's accuracy".

It remained unclear Sunday whether Trump would use the document as a pretext to fire senior Justice Department officials, a decision that could trigger a constitutional crisis, according to Democrats. "The dossier has nothing to do with an email sent by Cambridge Analytica".

Collins told The Times that Friday's news "has nothing to do with the Mueller investigation - it just has to do with some of the (people) who may have worked on that investigation". Former FBI director James Comey was less than thrilled by the memo. We're not dependent on commercial or political support and we do not accept any government funding.

The FBI agents seeking the surveillance didn't disclose the Democrats paid for the dossier, the memo claims.

This will likely have major repercussions for the relationship between the Justice Department and Capitol Hill.

"This memo totally vindicates "Trump" in probe", wrote, referring to the document issued earlier this week by Rep Devin Nunes of the House Intelligence Committee. In essence the FBI was citing Mr. Steele to corroborate Mr. Steele. "I stand with you", he said. Democrats in the House were quick to castigate the release of the memo. The president is in Palm Beach, Florida, this weekend, and the tweet came minutes after his motorcade left his private club en route to the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.

The Republican memo has fueled a battle between Trump and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which argued against the document's release.

"You now have the President at odds with the intelligence community, ploughing ahead despite the FBI's grave concerns and some central allegations within this memo that Republicans believe prove that the FBI was biased", she said.
