American Christian Evangelist Billy Graham Dies

Bruce Hamilton recalls Rev. Billy Graham's deep Jacksonville ties

Lubbock community members who attended his 1975 crusade at Jones Stadium reflect on the impact of that day.

His participation in a record number of presidential inaugurations underscored his legendary political connections. It was one of the last times Billy Graham came to Augusta to speak for the 150th anniversary of this church.

Robertson recalled that Graham delivered the keynote address in 1979 for the dedication of CBN's main studio headquarters in Virginia Beach, Va. and that Graham was a constant encourager.

His 1975 book, "Angels: God's Secret Agents", sold more than a million copies in three months.

Dom Garcia of the Calvary Ministry volunteered at that event. "He'd been quite quite in recent months", DeMoss said.

"Tirelessly spreading a message of fellowship and hope, he shaped the spiritual lives of tens of millions of people worldwide", Carter said.

Graham's body is current being held at Morris Funeral Home in Asheville. "That's the most important thing".

Over the course of his career, he was consulted by presidents Dwight Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy. Shuttles will operate from the Operation Christmas Child Processing Center on Forest Point well as 5613 Wilkinson Blvd.

In the fall of 1934, at age 16, Rev. Graham made a personal commitment to Christ through the ministry of Mordecai Ham, a traveling evangelist, who visited Charlotte for a series of revival meetings.

It will not be open casket. "One he wrote to me, I think it was the first time I was interviewed on the Larry King show on CNN", Warren says.

Graham reached multitudes around the globe through public appearances and his pioneering use of prime-time telecasts, network radio, daily newspaper columns, evangelistic films and satellite TV hook-ups.

"The door opened and there he was". Graham's preaching, to large rallies and broadcast audiences, gave comfort to many people. "And out of a true love for God and a desire for people to know him".

Graham's effects are impossible to quantify.

Invitations have been sent to President Donald Trump.

Liberty has had many ties to the Graham family and their ministries over the years.

In 1943, after Graham and Bell graduated from Wheaton and married, he took his first job out of college as the pastor of Western Springs Baptist Church. In 2001, he comforted his country and the world when he spoke at the National Cathedral in Washington, following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. She had a job caring for a couple of horses at Billy Graham's home near there. "He was a mentor to several of my children, including the former president of the United States".

"He made you feel like you were the only one in the room". But both Graham and the congregation knew the pastor didn't belong in a stationary pulpit.

They described Graham as devoted, faithful, resilient and strong, among other attributes. No matter what conversation you have with him, he is going to get it right back to the cross.

Those principals will help shape the future of tomorrow's religious leaders like Laker.
