Barcelona Tired Us Out - Chelsea Legend Sees Reason For Manchester United Loss

Lukaku was in great form

Romelu Lukaku responds to criticism after ending top-six duck v Chelsea

Romelu Lukaku ended his scoring drought against the Premier League's top teams before setting up the second-half winner for Jesse Lingard as Manchester United came from behind to beat Chelsea 2-1 and reclaim second place on Sunday.

He has to play like he did in the first half for 90 minutes, otherwise we don't have a good balance and lose the game.

'It shocks me, I have to say, ' Jenas said on Match of the Day.

The defeat left Chelsea in fifth place in the table, with Tottenham having moved into the top four with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, and Conte admits his side are now facing a tough task in the race for the Champions League places.

After Van Gaal was spotted in London - he took in Sunday's EFL Cup final at Wembley - it was reported the former Manchester United manager is being lined up by the Stamford Bridge club as a replacement for under pressure Antonio Conte.

"This could be a possibility for sure - I am repeating this same concept many times", he said.

"We beat a fantastic team, for some reason they were the champions last season, and for some reason they played well against Barcelona, and for some reason they started the game very well", Mourinho addedp.

Lukaku now has 22 goals in 40 games across all competitions in what has been an impressive debut season so far for the 24-year-old, but he is keen to do more in order to help the Reds win silverware.

United's man-of-the-match also made the winning goal for substitute Jesse Lingard with a perfect cross. That was the key - the game was a little bit open then. Conte served a four-month touchline ban in 2012 for failing to report his knowledge of an incident of attempted match-fixing during his time as Siena manager in 2011.

United had looked happy to allow the visitors the early possession and showed some more attacking intent midway through the half, with Alexis Sanchez spurning a terrific chance when he prodded the ball straight at Thibaut Courtois after taking what seemed to be an unnecessary extra touch.

Courtois was forced to tip over Lukaku's acrobatic volley from Sanchez's driven cross on 67 minutes, before De Gea gathered Willian's low free-kick at the second attempt two minutes later. Within 10 seconds Hazard had returned the ball to Willian on the right and he arrowed towards the United goal.

Chelsea almost went 2-1 up when Alonso ghosted into the box after good play from the lively Hazard, but the Spaniard shot high and wide. The only thing is that Liverpool can only worry about themselves and take each game as they come. The Belgian's goal was not the prettiest but he created space well and the finish was spot on.
