Twitter reaction: Eagles defeat Falcons in NFL playoffs

15 Enero 2018, 07:22 | Cornelio Vivanco

After a wire-to-wire battle, the Eagles, the top seed in the NFC, advance to the conference title game after knocking off the defending NFC champion Atlanta Falcons, 15-10.

This is the stuff of nightmares. Safety Keanu Neal recovered on the Atlanta 26-yard line.

As a unit, the Falcons defense couldn't prevent the Eagles offense from driving down the field.

Sarkisian was widely panned for the shovel pass call, but this one is far worse.

Sarkisian hadn't been in the NFL since 2005 and was expected to have some growing pains.

But the crowd was taken out of it on the next play when Atlanta recovered a Jay Ajayi fumble and capitalized with a Matt Bryant field goal.

The best wide receiver in the league had a nine-catch, 101 yard game on 16 targets despite not being schemed properly all game.

As a result of the Eagles' victory there will be a new NFC champion, and Philadelphia will make its first appearance in the NFC Championship Game since the 2008 season.

They hope to embrace the underdog label once again. The Vikings have wins over the Rams, Saints and Falcons. Keenum was signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent. At this point, the score was 10-9 Atlanta and Nick Foles wasn't looking too good leaving me still deep in worry. "Regardless of whatever the situation may be, we're defending the goal line and that's what we did". The Falcons then began to mount a decent drive that started at their own 12-yard line but the Eagles defense held and forced them to punt.

Looks like Johnson will hold on to the mask for another week. LeGarrette Blount ended up doing the honors on the next play to give the Eagles a 6-3 lead (the extra point was missed). "Nobody has to go out there and be superman".

If anything, the Eagles have covered the spread three times in five games this season in which they were pegged as underdogs. Falling behind 21-20 just inside the two-minute warning, a 52-yard field goal put the Vikings up, needing a defensive stand to prevail.

When asked about the play-calling down the stretch, the Falcons didn't say much.

To that end, Johnson followed later Sunday with a tweet indicating that he'll continue to embrace the underdog mentality against Minnesota. Obviously, the game is about more than the quarterbacks - and frankly, the matchup of the defenses is more compelling than the matchup of the quarterbacks.

The Eagles had used a dominant rushing attack on a long drive to take the lead earlier in the 2nd quarter.

"It was a tough game for us tonight", Falcons head coach Dan Quinn said, "and as we go through, we will go back and assess everything we have done".
