Bannon may have lost his fight with Trump — but what does that mean for Breitbart?

It already has cost him a key backer.

On Thursday Rebekah Mercer issued a statement distancing her family from Bannon.

But Wolff says he appreciates all the free promotion from the president.

Mr Wolff was also revealed to have taped many of his conversations, including those with Steve Bannon, which form much of the basis of the book.

Earlier Friday, Trump heaped praise on a major Republican donor family from distancing themselves from Bannon.

U.S. President Donald Trump lashed out at the media Friday as a provocative new book hit the stands portraying the first year of his presidency as one in shambles, and him as childlike and possibly in need of psychiatric help.

Trump later tagged Bannon with one of his infamous nicknames, calling him "Sloppy Steve".

But for the moment at least the damage appears to have been done.

According to Amazon, in the book Wolff "provides a wealth of new details about the chaos in the Oval Office".

"This is bigger than I ever dreamed of", he told Ailes a week before the election. The Breitbart base is all about Donald Trump.

"Ross was widely ridiculed for never missing an Air Force One opportunity - as Bannon put it, 'Wilbur is Zelig, every time you turn around he's in the picture'", wrote Wolff of his appearance on the presidential plane.

Trump's lawyers sent the cease and desist orders and threats of libel lawsuits to Wolff, his publisher Henry Holt and Company and to Bannon on Thursday. He compared the scene at the store with lines out the door to that of a new Harry Potter book release.

An employee at Beers Books in downtown Sacramento described the interest for a single book as "unprecedented".

Trump didn't really want to be president.

There was, in the space of little more than an hour, in Steve Bannon's not unamused observation, a befuddled Trump morphing into a disbelieving Trump and then into a horrified Trump.

The open sparring between Trump and Bannon threatens to undermine the former top White House aide's ability to hold together his coalition of hand-picked candidates in a number of high-profile 2018 Senate races. He suggested John Boehner, the former Republican speaker of the House. "Not only did he lose his job, but he also lost his mind". Trump has said the book is full of lies.

Now, the White House is battling a book, which seems to have taken away most of the momentum gained following the passage of a tax reform bill prior the Christmas break.

Meanwhile, the Justice Department is launching another probe into Clinton's use of a private email server when she was secretary of state, The Daily Beast reported Thursday. "Ultimately, if Trump finds himself in political jeopardy through either [Special Counsel Robert Mueller's] investigation or the midterms, don't be shocked if he starts taking advice from Steve again". And people ate it up.

Our president - Donald J. Trump - never wanted to be President of the United States.

The White House has said the book is riddled with errors, and campaign and administration officials have disputed events depicted in the book. "It's all about him", Wolff told NBC's "Today" show.

Rivals took aim at Bannon, too. "He obviously changed his tune pretty quick".

After the election, Wolff proposed the book idea to Trump as an inside the White House story.
