Samsung patents a smartphone with embedded camera and fingerprint sensor

It seems that Samsung will face tough competition in this particular market segment, where the South Korean manufacturer usually reigns supreme. We are still in the phase of seeing in-display fingerprint readers present in future devices, so slowly we will be waiting for additional developments to take place.

So this particular proposition can definitely be filed under 'unlikely'. Iris scanner on the Galaxy S9 is integrated on the front camera along with autofocus functionality. In terms of rear camera performance, the phase detection auto-focus (PDAF) assisted 16 MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture shows Samsung's expertise in mobile photography. This is because the companies are bitter rivals in the real world.

The Galaxy S9 duo will be the first flagships of the year to come with Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 845 mobile platform. Interestingly, the speaker and fingerprint scanner have been relocated for improved utility. Two aperture values will allow the user to control the light coming into the lens. The reports, however, suggest the next-gen Galaxy J device will be dubbed "Galaxy J8 (2018)" in order to keep its name in sync with upper mid-range Galaxy A series. We may even have the Galaxy Note 9 by the time the Galaxy X is unveiled.

The patent also reveals that the loudspeaker could be housed on the top right of the phone. There are some potential user interface advantages, too. It is a Dual-SIM device and comes powered by Samsung's own Exynos 7870(64 bit) processor coupled with optional 3GB/4GB of RAM, and for gaming, it houses a Mali-T830 MP1 GPU.

This sounds like a viable solution, and probably a preferable one to those who dislike the notch. On the other hand, Microsoft Surface Phone will be having the dual display that will be purely foldable, which can become a tablet, PC or even a normal phone. As it turns out, something similar just happened for the Galaxy S8 phones. Samsung, Motorola, HMD Global/Nokia, Sony, etc are said to launch a slew of new devices at the annual event. These will be intended to deliver an advanced artificial intelligence features by enabling the device to analyse, process and store data without using cloud provisions. You will get a premium feel with the 2.5D curved edge glass mounted on the display. At the top, you'll find the front camera, ear-cup and the proximity sensor, and located at the bottom is the home button.

A patent filed by LG shows a folding phone concept in which the handset forms a tablet when unfolded.
