Among the inflammatory passages in "Fire and Fury" is former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon's speculation that a 2016 meeting that Trump's son and son-in-law held with Kremlin-linked figures was "treasonous".
"It's enormously discouraging and dispiriting, and it is another reflection of this administration's march away from the principle of humanity", said Eric Schwartz, the former head of the refugee program under President Barack Obama. At times, Wolff has gotten scathing reviews for some of his seven books for his writing style, as well as what some critics claim is a focus on issues of style rather than substance.
While some of the claims have been debunked, Wolff claimed during an interview with BBC he compiled the book by using the "time-honored fashion" of talking to people close to Trump.
Trump responded by denouncing Bannon, stating he "lost his mind" after Trump fired him in August, and has since tweeted Wolff's book is seemingly part of some vast conspiracy to constantly discredit Trump since he believes the Russia investigation has proven to be a "hoax".
The new fissure in an already fractious Republican Party cast doubt on Bannon's hopes to foment a movement centered on "Trumpism without Trump".
"He and Melania spent relatively little time together".

"I certainly think that it's something they should look at and consider", she said. Oh, come on. They didn't actually say that? Please don't tell me that.
"He knows he is at his lowest point", one ally said.
This is a catastrophic blow to Steve Bannon and his job security at Breitbart News. Bannon, he said, had "very little to do with our historic victory". The problem is that effectiveness waned almost immediately upon entering the White House, and that, coupled with his megalomania and his belief that he was the true leader of the nationalist movement, backfired on him big time.
"You realise where this is going", Bannon says,"This is all about money laundering".
As soon as excerpts from Wolff's book leaked out in the media, many of Bannon's friends and colleagues urged him to release a statement defending himself.
"The only concern left was whether the president might give Bannon a temporary lease on life", he said. He has taken housekeeping staff to task over cleaning his room: "If my shirt is on the floor, it's because I want it on the floor".
