Democratic Frontrunners Vote To Keep Government Shut Down

The Republicans and the #Democrats couldn't reach an agreement on the issue of where the immigrant funding should go - should it go to helping the "dreamer" immigrants to settle in America (the Democrats' answer) or should it go to bolstering border patrol to ensure that immigrants can't get into America (the Republicans' answer)? The final vote stood at 81-18.
However, this move is already being criticized by Democrats and Liberals.
Still, we're pleased that senior senators from both parties have found a way to work together to reopen the government and plot a path forward for the important work of immigration reform.
Democrats lined up to vote on the deal, but the progressive wing is not happy about the bill, fearing they did not get enough assurances that the Dreamer issue will be saved. In a shutdown, services the government considers "nonessential" are put on hold, and the thousands of government employees who are responsible for these nonessential services are furloughed. "I think he's got a good understanding of what will sell, and every time we have a proposal it's only yanked back by staff members".
The Senate has voted to advance the bill to fund the government.

The Bill, H.R. 195, sets the clock for a showdown between Republicans and Democrats over immigration, one that could potentially end in another stand-off over spending.
