Apple's acquired Shazam — It's official

What are you going to do with your new music app Tim Cook
The U.S.is the largest single market, with about 20 million active users in November, while the U.K. had about 4 million in the same month. These days, the company is better known for its music recognition apps, which have been downloaded more than 1 billion times across a variety of mobile platforms.
There is, however, some interesting points in the purchase.
It's also not hard to imagine that the often used Save To Spotify feature within the Shazam app will go away forever.
An earlier concept, championed by shopkick, communicates with a phone's mic instead of a short-range Bluetooth signal. The Shazam service was launched in 1999.
What attracted Apple to strike this deal? A deal could be signed this week.
Shopkick soon jumped on the beacon bandwagon, combining its audio-based rewards system with Bluetooth devices. The company has created a database of more than 11 million "acoustic fingerprints" that it uses to identify songs. This feature, called Now Playing, even works offline.
The app has become one of the top ten most popular smartphone apps in the world.
To let Siri replicate the trick or add innovations of its own, Apple might have felt it needed to bring Shazam in-house.
The deal should definitely mean Apple will save money on commissions it has to pay out.
Apple said in September that the service had more than 30 million subscribers - a quick rise, but still trailing Spotify. To compensate, Shazam has turned increasingly to advertising.
Although the official sum is still undisclosed, it is thought to be far lower than than the $1 billion valuation the company received in 2015. Once the app identifies a match, it sends that information back to the user. In 2008, Shazam was among the first apps in Apple's then-brand-new App Store.
Apple has said that Shazam is a "natural fit" for its streaming music platform.
