Today, Xiaomi unveiled a new series of smartphones dedicated to selfie lovers. Though, if the storage seems less, you can insert a MicroSD card into the dedicated slot for the storage expansion.

Redmi Y1 Lite features 5.5-inch display, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage (expandable upto 128GB), 13MP rear and 5MP front camera, and 3,080mAh battery.

Basically, Y1 smartphone is rebranded version of Xiaomi Redmi 5A as launched in China a couple of weeks ago. For the front, there is an 8-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. The Chinese brand says the Redmi Y series smartphones are aimed at the youth of the nation. Apart from the processor and memory, most of the specs on Redmi Y1 Lite are same as Redmi Y1. Tha smartphone is quite affordable. Below it are three capacitive touch buttons for navigation.

Redmi Y1 comes in two variant just like any other budget-oriented smartphones. The speaker grilles are seen at the bottom edge of the devices along with a microUSB charging port sitting in the middle. It sports a 5.5 inch HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass. The display offers a 450 nits brightness and an impressive 70% of NTSC colour gamut. The device 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage variant retails for ₹8,999 and the 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage model retails for ₹10,999 only. Xiaomi's promising much faster speeds once the update is installed, claiming that the UI is as fast as the stock Android on the Mi A1. And it also has an infrared remote for controlling devices using the smartphone itself.

The second offering in the Y series, is the cheaper Redmi Y1 Lite will come with a 16 megapixel shooter with an LED selfie flash. The major highlight of the smartphone is the front selfie camera that boasts of a 16-megapixel sensor along with an LED flash light. The rear camera is also a 13MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture, HDR and PDAF supported. On the connectivity front, the device also includes 4G VoLTE along with other standard connectivity options. It is powered by a 3,080mAh non-removable battery.

The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite measures 153 x 76.2 x 7.55mm, while it weighs 150 grams.

The Redmi Y1 Lite has a 5.5-inch HD screen and runs MIUI 9 software. An octa-core Snapdragon 435 SoC coupled with 3GB/4GB of RAM powers the phone. Yes, it's the first smartphone by the company which comes with MIUI 9 running out-of-the-box. If your main concern is selfie cameras then go with the Xiaomi Redmi Y1. Looking back at 2015-2016, the loudest questions that Mi fans asked was 'why XYZ phones from Xiaomi do not make it to India?'. It houses a 3930mAh battery and comes with QuickCharge 3.0 support.

Both the brands are reportedly lining some interesting smartphones for the month of December, with Honor reported launching the latest Honor 7X, while Xiaomi could unveil the yet-to-be-announced Redmi 5 Plus.
