Just last month T-Mobile launched a new promotion in which subscribers to its network would be entitled to free Netflix subscription. That plan now costs $11.99, but it will go up to $13.99 with rate increases.

On Thursday, Mashable reported that Netflix will be raising the prices of its middle- and highest-tier plans for the United States by $1 and $2 respectively.

Despite the Netflix price increase, the company is still offering its streaming service cheaper than rivals.

You'll be paying more than ever before to binge watch your favorite Netflix shows this winter, after the streaming service announced a price hike for two of its popular packages.

The price hike arrives as Netflix continues to increase production of original TV and movie content. However, the "standard plan", which gives users HD and two simultaneous streams, the price will go up from $9.99 to $10.99 per month.

Speaking to the Independent Hastings said: "We want to take it very slow, over the next decade I think we'll be able to add more content and have more value and then price that appropriately".

Netflix is making this move, although unpopular, for the greater good of funding more content to feed its subscribers.

The price increase will only affect new members and became active as of Thursday, October 5. The company is spending around $6 billion on programming this year, projected to rise to $7 billion in 2017.

Netflix has increased their prices 60 percent since 2011.

There's no increase for Irish people using the one screen basic price plan of €7.99 per month. Subscribers who now pay for the standard $9.99 service will be charged $10.99. "Members will be notified with an email and also see a notification within the service". This time around, subscribers are only getting a few weeks' notice, and Netflix will be rapidly increasing its revenue.
