Movie mogul takes leave amid harassment claims

Rashida Jones is encouraging women to speak out against sexual harassment in the wake of the recent allegations against media mogul Harvey Weinstein.

Shortly after the article was published Weinstein took a voluntary leave of absence from the company. And on Saturday, Lisa Bloom, the sexual harassment lawyer whom Weinstein had hired to help him do damage control, also quit. NY Magazine's Rebecca Traister described how, in 2000, Weinstein violently attacked her boyfriend, reporter Andrew Goldman, by pushing him down the stairs of a Tribeca hotel.

Another of Mr Weinstein's alleged victims, British producer Zelda Perkins, 44, reportedly negotiated a settlement with a confidentiality clause.

When asked about the allegations, US President Donald Trump said he was not surprised and refused to acknowledge any parallels between Weinstein's alleged conduct and his comments in the 2005 Access Hollywood tape, in which he bragged about women letting him kiss them and grab their genitals because he was famous.

The board on Friday endorsed that decision. "The board of The Weinstein Company must prove that it stands by its company's sexual harassment policy, and that this policy applies to everyone, including its owners, by firing Harvey Weinstein immediately".

At lunch, Weinstein sat with the cast and crew, and told Atwell to watch what she was eating, explaining that he had just come from watching that morning's filming and he didn't like what he saw, a film-industry source told The Post. Meanwhile, many Democratic lawmakers disavowed Weinstein, a major party donor, and pledged to give his campaign contributions to charity.

The report also detailed encounters Weinstein allegedly had with other women working for the Weinstein Company, as well as official settlements from people associated with him, including actress Rose McGowen, who was issued a $100,000 settlement that Weinstein specifically said was not an admission of guilt.

On the weekend, Weinstein said he planned to sue the NY Times for $US50 million for "reckless reporting". Prior to TWC, the Weinstein's Miramax (named after their parents Miriam and Max), which was later sold to Walt Disney Co., led three of its films - The English Patient, Shakespeare in Love, and Chicago - to Best Picture Oscar wins.

The person familiar with Saturday's episode said that Mr. Michaels, in referring to "a NY thing" and Mr. Weinstein, had meant that the events surrounding Mr. Weinstein seemed at the time like a NY media story with which a national television audience might not be familiar.
