Microsoft unveils Surface Book 2, promising double the power and speed of Apple MacBook Pro
The Surface Book 2 is available is available in a new 15-inch screen size and is packing internals that are as powerful as a desktop computer.
Surface Book 2 (13.5-inch) with 8th Generation Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 dGPU with 2 GB GDDR5 graphics memory.
When Surface Laptop was announced, we thought that it would replace Surface Book. Having that option would have been welcome, even if at a significant expense, considering the target audience for the Surface Book. As before, you can release the upper touchscreen section - complete with processor, storage, and battery - from the keyboard section and use it as a tablet. The hinge gap is still there, though officials are saying they've made some improvements that make the device is less unstable when its touch screen is used. While most professional-level laptops weight eight to ten pounds, the 13-inch Surface Book 2 weighs only 3.38 pounds and the 15-inch model weighs just 4.2 pounds. Both models have a 3:2 aspect ratio, with resolutions of 3000×2000 and 3240×2160 - a pretty unusual decision on Microsoft's part.
Surface Book 2 models come with Intel's eight-gen Core CPU, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to NVIDIA GeForce 1060 graphics inside. While you wouldn't want to buy either laptop with gaming as the focus (you can clearly get more bang for your buck elsewhere), this makes the 15-inch rig a tempting option if you don't want to give up your game library just to try Microsoft's removable tablet design. The 13in version is also available with a Core i5 processor - although this is limited to a seventh-generation version. The basic 13.5-inch version starts at $1,499, and the basic 15-inch version starts at $2,499. After the success of the first two generations of Surface Book 2-in-1 detachable-hybrid tablets, the company is back with a big, powerful 15-inch Surface Book, along with a light refresh of the 13.5-inch model.
Surface Book 2 looks quite similar though not identical to Microsoft's original Surface Book. And he says that a lot of thought has gone into the little things that make a laptop like the Surface Book 2 into the "object of desire" that his team is aiming for. The basic 13-inch iteration of the Surface Book 2 costs about $200 more than its closest MacBook competitor.
"Microsoft would like to see Surface eclipse MacBook sales and given Surface is strategically more important to Microsoft than MacBook is to Apple, I could see it happen in a few years", says Moorhead.
Still, it's not immediately clear where the Surface Book 2 will fit into the larger market, as overall PC sales continue their years-long decline. Portability will be one of the factors that users will have to consider when getting the Surface Book 2. The Surface Book 2 will be available starting from November 16, and the base price is $1,499.
Trump: We can't aid Puerto Rico forever
Puerto Rico was already suffering from a lengthy recession and its government was beset with fiscal struggles to begin with. People have been trapped in their homes, debris blocking any attempt to escape. "So we are keeping them there".
