WWE Hell in a Cell 2017: Shane McMahon Fights Kevin Owens on Oct. 8 Main Event
Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon squared off in the brutal spotfest everyone was expecting. I'm not sure what the hell this all means for Nakamura though. Owens followed that up with a frog splash from the top. Given that Owens' animosity is directed toward the McMahon family, it could be a viable option to have Triple H get involved and shoot some kind of angle - which could set up a potentially hot match between he and Hunter, perhaps at Survivor Series. They've put on solid matches in the past and Sunday should be no different. In other words, it was a mixed bag as far as results were concerned. Jinder says Nakamura is out of the picture and he wants to know who is next for him. Charlotte Flair defeated Women's champion Natalya via disqualification. Charlotte is, without question, a most worthy candidate.
For a little stretch, SmackDown has been in a slump due to Raw getting the first post-SummerSlam PPV.
MATTHEW ASHER: If there's another one of those Montreal/Chicago Screwjob references or finishes, I'm not going to be happy. Throw in the fact that Bryan adding a third man to the match actually screws over Styles way more than it does Baron Corbin, and you've got the makes of a botched build. This match is the for United States Championship. Shelton and Chad make a great pair and the crowd was here, early, for this one.
AJ Styles would be a great opponent for Mahal next if WWE went that direction. His work over the last month has been highly entertaining, and I hope, despite this result, we see more of him and Aiden English, perhaps in the United States title picture. Going by the way Orton's been making side character Aiden English look good in this feud, I think Rusev might take this one. No one would deny that the WWE needs to push other stars on the SmackDown roster, but to do so at the expense of AJ Styles shows an incredible lack of foresight on the part of the SmackDown creative team. But when he really shows off his strength, man, he lays down some really believable offense.
Randy Orton beat Rusev, while Bobby Roode won against Dolph Ziggler. Probably saying New Day will win this, but I won't be surprised with an Uso win. It unquestionably lived up to most of our expectations, and delivered us another memorable match from these two teams.
After that, we had a normal singles match with Randy Orton vs. Rusev. Jinder Mahal needs to drop the belt asap, as it has now lost all relevance and the company need to stop giving us such tiresome, formulaic matches.
Hell in a Cell is on Sunday and I'm back to have some fun predicting the winners of each match - so hit the jump to see if you agree with my picks.
