While some other smartphone makers, like Samsung, have attempted facial recognition before, Kuo's note suggests Androidhandset builders will put more resources into it soon. Kuo had previously also predicted that all the 2018 iPhone models will feature Face ID.
Considering there is no fingerprint sensor either on the iPhone X, Apple is relying completely on a new method of authentication - Face ID.
It's a crisis situation for Apple, and we are yet to see how the company deals with it given that the flagship iPhone X launch is scheduled for early next month.
Kuo added that at least for the next two to three years, under-display fingerprint recognition will likely be exclusively available to some Android smartphone makers, with Samsung dominating the high-end OLED panel market.
The iPhone X saw the first radical redesign of the iPhone since 2014's iPhone 6, in that it covered the front panel nearly entirely with the OLED display, physically eliminating the space for Touch ID to live under a home button. The company, at its annual developer conference in June, announced a new 10.5-inch iPad Pro and refreshed its 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
