Trump announces visit to storm-hit Puerto Rico

Transporting supplies to the island quickly has been hard because barges take up to a week and flights in and out of Puerto Rico are limited. "People don't realize the gravity of the situation".

"It was redial, redial, redial... until I could get through to them".

"I know many Puerto Ricans, and they're great people and we have to help them. Much food and water there/on way".

"With millions of US citizens stranded in remote areas without basic necessities, engineers are needed first to clear the roads", wrote the Democratic lawmakers.

"People are going to die", said Dorado Mayor Carlos López Rivera about dialysis patients in the town on Wednesday.

Earlier Tuesday, Trump told reporters that next Tuesday was the earliest that he could visit the island because of logistical issues.

Tuesday on ABC's "The View", while discussing the hurricane recovery in Puerto Rico co-host Whoopi Goldberg speculated twice that President Donald Trump does not know Puerto Rico was a USA territory.

He said he may also stop in the US Virgin Islands during the Tuesday trip. Just 37% of people ages 18-29 knew that island-born boris are USA citizens.

Nelida Trinidad talks about the destruction of her home in Montebello, Puerto Rico, after Hurricane Maria wrecked the island last week, leaving many without adequate food and water.
