Eight elderly patients died after being left inside a stifling south Florida nursing home that lost power during Hurricane Irma, officials said on Wednesday, prompting a criminal investigation that has compounded a mounting loss of life from the storm.
Sen. Lauren Book, a Plantation Democrat, filed the measure (SB 284) on Friday afternoon.
And according to to the recent reports, eight people have died from sweltering Nursing home in Florida which occurred because the hospital was devoid of power for many days. And authorities say another dozen people were treated for carbon monoxide on Tuesday in Polk and Brevard counties. According to nursing home officials, FPL said they would have crews dispatched the next morning. Book, elected a year ago, is also the Senate's Democratic Leader pro tempore. "We know one thing is that our dad passed because of whatever happened there", said Franco.
The governor's spokeswoman, Lauren Schenone, confirmed that the calls did take place and said that caregivers were instructed to dial 911 if they felt their patients were unsafe.
"At no time did the facility report that conditions had become risky or that the health and safety of their patients was at risk", the statement says.
Mr Trump has promised to return to Florida "numerous times" as thousands of people begin the painstaking task of rebuilding their homes - adding that Irma's destruction was on a scale "nobody has seen before".
Chunks of big city Miami are in the dark so is rural Glades County where Irma knocked out electricity to 99 percent of customers.
In general, Florida requires nursing homes to maintain a "safe" temperature of about 80 degrees, in addition to three days' worth of backup power and emergency supplies. A complete list is here.
Rescue teams and medical staff who helped evacuate residents from the nursing home this week said that the building was extremely hot, with staff trying to lower temperatures with portable fans.
Of assisted living facilities, 193 were on generators, 1,978 had power, 182 reported being closed and 177 reported post-storm evacuations.
Millions in Florida remain without power but the lights are continuing to come on across the state. Careful consideration was given to how Trump can visit the disaster zone and meet with first responders without getting in the way of recovery efforts.
In the Keys, Irma tore apart houses, flattened mobile homes and pushed boats onto the highway linking the archipelago, prompting authorities to largely shut down access to the islands.

Amid urgent warnings from state officials to evacuate before it was too late, downtown Miami was all but abandoned on Saturday. The game is now set for Oct. 7, which was supposed to be an off week for both teams. "It's not really time to go outside yet".
What to Watch in Singapore — Formula One
Red Bull are the most successful team in Singapore to date with three wins (2011-2013), ahead of Mercedes and Ferrari (two each). If they can hold out for the length of the race , expect points - there was some great pace there.
Cleveland faces a stiff challenge, but the streak lives on
He became the 13th player with five extra-base hits in a game and first for Cleveland since catcher Kelly Shoppach in 2008. The last time a team made it to 20 straight wins, they got a best-selling book and a pretty solid sports movie out of it.
Leave your dreams at the door — TrumpWatch
Congress has been unable to pass comprehensive immigration legislation, so President Obama took action with an executive order. Trump also tweeted Thursday saying there was no deal on DACA and that massive border security would be needed for consent.
