The UN estimates 240,000 children are among the 400,000 Rohingya who have fled Myanmar since late August, recounting attacks by government troops and Buddhist mobs.

Find out more about what is happening and why below.

"Muslims are being tyrannized in the world".

"There needs to be a focus, obviously, as he said, on the halt of the, of military and security operations". In a report, UN investigators said such violations may have constituted crimes against humanity.

The situation has got worse over the last year. The criticism has even come from other Nobel Peace Prize winners.

Bangladesh authorities said they would build a massive camp on a 2,000 acre (800 hectare) plot of land near an existing Rohingya refugee camp in Kutupalong in Cox's Bazar district, which borders Myanmar. "Why the BJP government want to send them back".

Around three hundred and eighty thousand Rohingya have fled Myanmar since violence erupted last month in Rakhine State. It said a protest note was handed to Myanmar's envoy on Friday evening.

The ministry said Myanmar's "provocations" could lead to "unwarranted consequences".

Manipur, which shares over 300 kilometres of border with Myanmar, has sounded a red alert to avert any attempt by the Rohingyas who are fleeing Rakhine to enter India.

The UN refugee agency sent a flight to Bangladesh carrying emergency aid.

"These people don't have the time to mourn".

She spoke at a regular briefing in Geneva that included comments from many UN agencies addressing the crisis in Bangladesh.

People involved in providing humanitarian assistance to the refugees have called for a central coordination and proper initiatives, the Dhaka Tribune reported.

Human rights groups and the UN describe that "reaction" as ethnic cleansing.

Technically they are just "the Rohingya", the majority of whom happen to be Muslim.

Myanmar has denied the allegations.

It has also said that it is only fighting against Rohingya soldiers and denies targeting ordinary citizens.

But Myanmar officials say the country's de facto leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, will miss a key debate next week in the UN General Assembly.

The Security Council has not agreed on a Burma statement since 2008 when the country was in a transition to democracy, mainly because of neighbouring China's support for the government and its military.

But international pressure is growing on Myanmar.

On August 25, a group of Rohingya militants attacked about 30 police offices and army positions in Rakhine, killing several people.
