Irma knocks out power to about 7.3 million
Television footage showed rescue crews arriving at the facility shortly after 7.30am on Wednesday and patients sitting outside in wheelchairs.
Raelin Story, a Broward County spokesperson, said fire rescue operatives arrived at the home to find the facilities sweltering hot, leaving numerous elderly patients unable to breathe. The deaths at the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills were believed to be heat-related. Several phone calls went to them, and they were all ignored.
An adjacent building, Larkin Community Hospital, was also evacuated. "There will be an investigation here and we will get to the bottom of it".

The Agency for Health Care Administration and the Department of Children and Families have now launched investigations into the facility, and one relative of a longtime resident of the nursing home says she hopes the owners are stopped from ever allowing this to happen again. Sanchez also said investigators will look into how many windows were open. Broward County said the home alerted officials Tuesday that it had lost power, but when asked if it had any medical needs or emergencies, it did not request help. Sanchez said authorities are now conducting inspections of 42 assisted living facilities in Hollywood.
Josh Levy, the mayor of Hollywood, said he urged mayors and county commissioners across the state to urge residents to check on elderly neighbors in their communities.
"You want to come back to power", he said.
Irma, which made landfall Sunday morning in the Florida Keys as a Category Four hurricane, had triggered orders for more than six million people to flee to safety, one of the biggest evacuations in U.S. history. Before the day was over, eight residents lay dead. Three others died in hospital.
He said the facility had immediately contacted Florida Power & Light on when repairs might be made to restore electricity. The number of people in shelters fell to under 13,000.
