Graham-Cassidy bill not good for families

VIDEO | Coons slams Republicans on tax reform says it'll fail like Obamacare repeal

As a result, Republican House members took symbolic votes during the Obama presidency to repeal the ACA.

Cardinal Dolan, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities, Archbishop Lori, chairman of USCCB Committee on Religious Liberty, Bishop Dewane chair of USCCB Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development and Bishop Vasquez the USCCB chairman of the Committee on Migration, called on the U.S. Senate to "think of the harm that will be caused to poor and vulnerable people" by the Graham-Cassidy bill.

For much of this year, Congressional Republicans have been fixated on repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act, with each bill seemingly more draconian than the last.

With the Graham-Cassidy distraction behind it, Congress can still resolve these crucial health-care issues. Earning enough to disqualify them for Medicaid and too young for Medicare, this flexible workforce faced unaffordable medical bills or avoided medical care altogether when they got sick. And I look at this, the announcement on Tuesday that they wouldn't be pursuing Graham-Cassidy before today's deadline. John McCain's vote opposing the GOP's health care plan in July. Senator Ted Cruz also said he opposed the legislation as written. There would have been no guarantee of coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.

Let's examine Senator Collin's other allegation about Medicaid cuts.

Medicaid block grants - States are best positioned to determine the health care needs of their citizens, and they need flexibility to structure and administer the Medicaid program. Alaska, California, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York and Washington will see a 25 percent reduction in Medicaid funding promised by the ACA. But the powerful lobbying group America's Health Insurance Plans came out strongly against the bill Wednesday, saying it "would have real consequences on consumers and patients by further destabilizing the individual market".

There are two things wrong with this analysis. There are now at least three Republicans who do not support the bill: Sens. The revised Graham-Cassidy health reform bill will reportedly boost Medicaid funding for several states, including Alaska and Arizona. It said that "millions of additional people would be uninsured" under the Graham-Cassidy bill, compared with the number of people expected to lack coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

The initial proposed bill would reduce total federal spending on Medicaid by $776 billion by 2026, throw over 30 million people off healthcare and defund Planned Parenthood. In fact, almost 24 percent of all the bill's cuts come from NY alone, according to an analysis by the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities. "But Republicans campaigned on this so often that you have a responsibility to carry out what you said in the campaign".

Take Obamacare for instance.

There was a glimmer of hope that Democrats and Republicans would come together to discuss real solutions to improve the ACA that has made tremendous progress for millions of people. Sixty votes in the Senate will be required, rather than the 51 that were needed, but failed to materialize, for multiple recent, unsuccessful attempts to pass health-care legislation as part of the federal budget reconciliation process. Lawmakers also are likely to soon reauthorize the Children's Health Insurance Program, a government-funded health insurance program for children in lower income families, which could potentially provide another vehicle for added proposals.

Where is her evidence to support those claims?

And the first-term South Dakota Republican was met with questions about the health care reform effort right off the bat.

No one can claim that the President hasn't been involved in trying to save this bill.

The coverage expansions available under the Affordable Care Act continue to have a significant and positive impact on Whitman-Walker patients, and other people needing health insurance.

What could they possibly be thinking?
