Power has been restored to over 4.8 million Floridians in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma as of Friday morning, though almost 1.9 million statewide are still impacted by outages. As of 9 p.m. Thursday, Alabama Power's sister company had restored power to 920,000 customers.

In Georgia, utilities reported around 1.2 million customers without power Tuesday morning, down from a peak of more than 1.4 million on Monday night.

They are still without power on Day 6 after Hurricane Irma left the tri-county region, and they're especially frustrated they can't reach FPL.

The most extensive damage was likely in the Naples area, but a full assessment was ongoing.

Less than 600,000 Georgia Power and Electric Member Corp. customers are still without power early Wednesday.

Irma, which ranked as one of the most powerful Atlantic storms on record before striking the USA mainland as a Category 4 hurricane on September 10, killed at least 84 people. "This is not the case", says a press release issued by the company.

Those without power were welcome to visit town facilities for air-conditioning, wireless internet and to charge their mobile phones.

Information about outages is posted on their website, but many are still being assessed.

"FP&L; spokesperson Rob Gould said restoration to almost all customers in the eastern half of the state should be completed by Sunday night", member station WLRN reports.

"Over the past few days, I have seen firsthand how Hurricane Irma has impacted our communities, and I know from talking with these families that power restoration is the number one thing they need to start the recovery process", Gov. Rick Scott said in a written statement. That's down from a combined 2 million outages at the height of the storm.

Most of those costs were related to Matthew, which caused a third as many outages as Irma did for FPL.

Watch for downed wires. The U.S. Virgin Islands was the hardest hit of any U.S. state or territory, with large numbers of homes destroyed and widespread power outages.

"Our guys, I was talking to them, they're passing and being passed by convoys of line trucks from all over heading down to help".

Avoid chain link fences. They've been assigned to a single segment of an affected line. Some three weeks after Harvey, at least 10,700 customers in that state remained without power. In advance of Irma, the utilities had called on thousands of fix workers from across the US and had been staging them in areas where the storm was expected to do its worst. Family Services is supported by employee volunteers who are not involved with storm restoration.

Georgia Power is the largest electric subsidiary of Southern Company (NYSE: SO), America's premier energy company.

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has declared a state of emergency in all 159 counties. Georgia Power focuses on delivering world-class service to its customers every day and the company is consistently recognized by J.D. Power and Associates as an industry leader in customer satisfaction.
