You Still Know Nothing Podcast - Beyond the Wall
Game of Thrones has never presented Arya as wanting anythingmore than what she is or has become. But because we have witnessed Sansa's evolution over the past six seasons, we know that's a pretty thin view of who Sansa is now. Sansa, with very good reason, seems extremely disturbed and scared of Arya. Arya and Sansa Stark need to stop engaging in a cold war against one another and start working together, even if they are justified in their respective suspicions of each other. During the scene, Arya talked about the "Game of Faces" that she used to play.
Littlefinger was quick to understand the potential threat Arya posed to him upon her return to Winterfell and, in an attempt to drive a wedge between her and her sister, planted a scroll the Lannisters forced Sansa forced to write way back in Season 1 where he knew Arya would find it. That's not an option for Daenerys and given that she's the last Targaryen (that everyone's knows of currently) there's no obvious successor to her rule should something happen to her. Jon has Sansa, Cersei has Jaime/her unborn child, who does Dany have? Or, get the Three-Eyed Raven to do it.
So what is with the Season 7 attitude, Lady Stark?
A dragon that possibly has the power to burn down the wall.
Most crucially, having Littlefinger completely own the Stark family for the umpteenth time does absolutely nothing for the story. They drew parallel of their hairdos with different GoT characters Sansa was inspired by.
The seventh season also has surmounted hacks, leaks and intense speculation. The letter that is the source of all the tension has been posted on Making Game of Thrones. One of them should have died during the battle with the Army of the Dead.
Sansa is unnerved by her younger sister (rightfully so) and seems to be frantically asking Littlefinger for advice.
The current conflict between Arya and Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones will not have a peaceful resolution, according to one of the show's directors.
Unsurprisingly, there are some theories. If this theory holds water, Arya doesn't actuallywant to cut Sansa's face off; she just wants Littlefinger to think she does. There is, of course, disagreement on how that will come about. In winter, we must protect one another, keep each other warm, share our strengths. What's he been doing all this time, and what objective will he ultimately serve? It's something that's bothering a lot of fans, with some going so far as to call Arya's behavior "psychopathic".
Joffrey's decision to execute Ned was a curveball that no one saw coming. He stabbed the Starks in the back at every opportunity.
If Game of Thrones hasn't done the best job setting that up, well, that's the show's fault. Afraid that Arya might take an incriminating note back to the Northern lords, whose loyalties spin like weathervanes, Sansa tries to retrieve the note from Arya's room, and instead discovers a bag with flattened faces. The Stark sisters are playing right into Littlefinger's game-and it seems unlike either of them. That's up for debate.
