Uber board votes to pick a new CEO

Timeline Uber's management crisis
Travis Kalanickresigned from his position as CEO of Uber, a ride-hailing company that he helped build and found in 2009, after a shareholder revolt made it impossible for him to stay on as CEO.
It remains to be seen how well Kalanick, who still sits on the board and controls two other unoccupied board seats, will work with Khosrowshahi, who has spent more than a decade leading the Bellevue, Washington-based travel company.
Former GE CEO Immelt, who also was rumored to be a top contender for the Uber role, took his name out of the running on Sunday. The process has deeply divided Uber's board, culminating in Benchmark Capital, one of its largest investors, suing Kalanick and the company for mismanagement and misconduct.
Whitman was said to be the Uber board's "favored candidate" as late as early afternoon Sunday until the news of Khosrowshahi's appointment was leaked. Two sources claim that Whitman is now the "likely candidate" despite her previous objections.
"The board has voted and will announce the decision to the employees first", a board spokeswoman said in an email to Reuters.
Uber engineer Susan Fowler alleged that she and other female employees at the company were sexually harassed. A spokesman for Ms. Whitman didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
The company's problems started snowballing in February when former Uber engineer Susan Fowler wrote a blog post titled "Reflecting on One Very, Very Strange Year at Uber".
Whitman was widely rumored as the favorite for the CEO gig at the $69 billion, ride-hail company. Uber is also fighting a lawsuit against self-driving carmaker Waymo, and faces a federal probe over its use of a software tool to evade law enforcement.
More recently, his decision to publicly defend his involvement on the United States president Donald Trump's manufacturing council two days before it disbanded was seen as troublesome.
The request specifically states that it's seeking documentation which proves that Benchmark leaked confidential information on Uber, particularly relating to the June report by former US attorney general Eric Holder.
