Saina Nehwal Wins Bronze in Glagow

Welcome to inUth's live digital coverage of World Badminton Championships' semi-final clash between Olympic Silver Medalist PV Sindhu and China's Chen Yufei.

So much so that she failed to keep the momentum she had in the first game failed to advance to her second final of World Badminton Championships.

"It's my goal to win as many medals as possible for myself and Denmark", said the world No. 3, who won the bronze medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

World No. 16 Saina Nehwal made the semifinals with a hard-fought 21-19, 19-21, 21-15 win over Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland. She battled on bravely in the next two games, but in the third game it was quite apparent that the Indian did not have any gas left in her tank. But she avenged that loss with another sizzling performance. "I still have tendonitis in the (right) knee", Saina said after her quarterfinal match.

China's Chen Yufei (ABOVE) knocks out Japan's Akane Yamaguchi (BELOW) during their round three women's singles match during the 2017 BWF World Championships of badminton at Emirates Arena in Glasgow on August 24.

The result was a mere formality once Sindhu led 11-1 at the changeover in the second game and the agony ended for Chen after 47 minutes as Sindhu played her best match of the tournament.

The 27-year-old broke the spirits of Okuhara with her trademark deceptive drop shots. Singled out as one of the biggest title contenders, the World No. 4 was presented with her sternest test in the Round of 16 where she was two points away from defeat against the 17th ranked Cheung Ngan Yi.

Saina seemed to lack the length in her returns which could put her rival out of position and she looked frustrated as Gilmour dictated the turns with her repertoire of strokes. Yet the Indian marched on and moved to 19-13 when Chen sent the shuttle long. But in the second game, Srikanth gave some fight before surrendering. The diminutive Chinese seemed to find it hard to negotiate the drift as she made judgement errors and also hit wide and long. It worked as she led 17-13. Okuhara defeated Sindhu's compatriot Saina Nehwal 12-21, 21-17, 21-10 to progress to the final.

With the score reading 5-4 in Sindhu's favour, she won six straight points to win the lead 11-4 at the break.

Sindhu began the match on a positive note, opening up a 3-0 lead. Saina, however, kept breathing down Okuhara's neck, making it 15-15 when the Japanese found the net and also hit long.

It must be mentioned here that the previous edition of the championship game that was held in Jakarta in the year 2015 saw the ace shuttler winning a silver medal. She also won the Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold in January.
