NBA Schedule: Rematches rivalries and returns

James Harden and Chris Paul guard one another as the Rockets and Clippers face off

The Celtics will play seven 2016-17 playoff teams over the first five weeks of the season, starting opening night in Cleveland and ending with a November 16 visit from the defending champion Golden State Warriors (their only visit to Boston).

In addition, the eight (8) national television games during Week 1 on TNT and ESPN were scheduled to ensure that no teams would be on a back to back leading in to the game. The preseason concludes at home against the Spurs on October 13. Rockets will have seven of their first 10 games of the season on the road.

The final home game of the season will be April 7 when the Rockets face reigning MVP Russell Westbrook and the Thunder, and Houston will wrap up the regular season on the road in Sacramento on April 11.

From Nov. 5 to December 22, Houston will play 15 of its 21 games at home, ending with nine-time NBA All Star Chris Paul's first matchup against his former team, the Los Angeles Clippers. Two days later, the Cavs will play their lone game in Phoenix and then stop in Portland.

Chris Paul's return to Staples Center to face his former team in January is a game everyone should circle on their calendar.

The Christmas Day lineup is Philadelphia at New York, Cleveland at Golden State, Washington at Boston, Houston at Oklahoma City and Minnesota at Lakers. Curry never gave a public response to the comment, but he will let his game do the talking when the Warriors meet the Lakers for the first time the week after Thanksgiving.

The 2017 National Basketball Association season opens with two potential conference finals matchups. Last year's conference finals was not particularly close, so the Celtics will be looking to measure themselves against the Cavaliers early in the season.

DeMarcus Cousins will make an early season trip back to Sacramento, while Gordon Hayward will wait nearly all season to see Utah again. Kevin Durant's return to D.C. was cut short previous year when he exited the game after a little more than a minute with a knee injury that ultimately cost him 19 games.

The NBA season starts a week earlier than it has in the past to try to minimize coaches resting star players.

Cousins will then return to California's capital city to play for the first time since the Kings traded him to New Orleans last February, when the Pelicans visit on October 26 as part of a TNT doubleheader.

With Gordon Hayward now with the Celtics, there's a lot of anticipation for Boston's annual road game against the Jazz.

Paul George will make his return to IN on December 13 on ESPN.

Jimmy Butler, dealt by the Bulls to the Minnesota Timberwolves in June, returns to Chicago with his new team on February 9. They were granted the No. 1 pick of this year's draft and traded it.

The NBA schedule has been released and the Warriors have to be delighted. They added deadly shooters like Nick Young and Omri Casspi to bolster their bench and retained players like Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston, which maintains the core that this team has been successful with these last several years.

Key figures apart of the Rockets such as general manager Daryl Morey and Harden recently signed extensions to remain in Houston for the foreseeable future, all things that could be used as a major selling point to prospective buyers in the coming months.
