Liverpool and FSG release official statement on the future of Philippe Coutinho

11 Agosto 2017, 03:45 | Cornelio Vivanco

The Merseyside club's position on the Brazil worldwide, who was a key player in Klopp's squad last campaign, is boosted by Coutinho's signing of a new five-year contract last season.

Liverpool's owners Fenway Sports Group released a short but forthright statement on Friday (11 August) confirming that they will not entertain any further offers from Barcelona or indeed any club for Coutinho.

"The club's definitive stance is that no offers for Philippe will be considered..."

The 25-year-old is Liverpool's star man, the focal point of Klopp's project and the one through which all play flows. But Liverpool don't have to sell him if they don't want to.

According to various reports, Liverpool rejected an offer worth £90million from Barcelona for the signature of the much sought-after Philippe Coutinho on Wednesday.

With Adam Lallana also sidelined, Mohamed Salah is in line to make to make his competitive Liverpool debut - and Klopp has been incredibly impressed with the Egyptian since his arrival at the club.

The 28-capped Brazil worldwide has been suffering with a niggling back injury and it's unlikely that the Merseyside boss will want to risk the problem getting worse at the beginning of the season.

The Brazil worldwide is reportedly a key target for Barcelona, who are said to be ready to pay in excess of £100million to bring him to Camp Nou.

"That is set in stone. I turned 50 in the summer and I forget things", he said. So what they pay in the end doesn't matter. Instead of depending on one player, the team has to come up with a unique style and technique of playing to make them stand out from the rest of their rivals.

But since then, Liverpool have not strengthened their squad ahead of a Champions League qualifying challenge against Hoffenheim and a league kick-off on Saturday morning against Watford.
