J&K: Top LeT commander Abu Dujana killed in encounter

Dujana was one of the most wanted terrorists and carried over Rs. 15 lakh bounty on his head. Musa is listed under the category A±± and is now associated with al-Qaeda's cell Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind as its Chief Commander. Violent protests and clashes between security forces and civilians were going on at many places in the Valley when this report was filed.

"Dujana was instrumental in recruiting local youth in LeT".

On Tuesday, Dujana was caught in the same area where he had earlier given the forces a slip. Acting on specific input, joint cordon and search operations (CASO) was launched by 182 Battalion, 183 Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 55 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operations Group (SOG) on Tuesday morning. They were involved in grenade attacks on security forces at Kakapora and Police Post Kakapora.

According to sources, stone pelting started after various news channels reported that Dujana had been eliminated in the encounter.

One civilian, identified as Firdous Ahmed Khan, was hit by a bullet during clashes in Pulwama. It had also said getting these militants dead or alive is the top priority of the Army.

Abu is the third top militant leader killed since a year ago following Hizbul Mujahideen leaders Burhan Wani and Sabzar Bhat.

IG, Kashmir, Munir Khan, said the quantum of fire from the terrorists' side was very heavy.

"After spending several months in north Kashmir, Dujana finally moved to Pulwama and became a shadow of the then-LeT commander, Abu Qasim, also a Pakistani national", a senior police official from south Kashmir told Kashmir Reader.

Many police officials believe he would himself plan and drive militants to the attack site and flee from the spot alone.

Dujana is the third top militant killed in the valley since a year ago.

It was about midnight when the phones of security officials buzzed. Abu Dujana, alias Hafiz (LeT Divisional Commander, South Kashmir), was listed under the A++ category and the Army had also said he is based out of Pakistan and has been active since December 14, 2014.

However, in an indication that Dujana was working in tandem with Hizbul Mujahideen as well, Syed Salahudin, Hizbul's operational chief, has said that Dujana's killing will leave a "vacuum".
Security forces used tear smoke shells and fired some shots to disperse the protesters.

The tip came from a trusted source and there was no time to lose, said officials, recapping the dramatic events of the night long operation that led to the killing of Dujana and an accomplice here today. Two houses in the village were also destroyed in the encounter. Dujana had escaped from the encounter site.
