Haryana stalking case: Footage from 9 CCTVs 'missing'

He was at first charged with stalking and bid to kidnapping but most of the charges were resolved this morning.

Meanwhile, sources indicated that Haryana BJP president Subhash Barala offered to give his resignation following the huge embarrassment that the party faced in the wake of stalking case.

The case is at the centre of a media storm in India, where scrutiny of sexual violence has grown since the 2012 gang rape and murder of a student in New Delhi.

She wrote on her Facebook page that Vikas and his associate chased and accosted her in a white SUV late on Friday night and tried to even bang on her vehicle. In a (now deleted) Facebook post, Kuldeep Barala, a member of the Barala family, shared a photo of the victim with two men and implied that she was drunk at the time of the incident. The police claims it has gone by what Varnika said in her complaint. Vikas Barala, 23, and his friend have been accused of stalking the daughter of an Indian Administrative Service officer late at night in Chandigarh.

He stated that his daughter and he would not interfere with the investigation or the prosecution, just as they would not want the accused to influence the investigation in any way. After they repeatedly tried to force her to pull over, she called the police control room, according to a post she wrote on Facebook. Chandigarh Lok Sabha MP Kirron Kher told Mirror, "My concern is that the city must be safe and police must ensure that women are able to move freely".

"We are not doing anything under pressure".

CPI national secretary D Raja also questioned the "silence" of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and the Union Home Ministry on the issue and accused the ruling party of trying to hush up the matter.

This was the second statement by the Chief Minister as earlier he reiterated that it was not right to punish BJP leader Subhash Barala for his son's crime.

Curiously, the Chandigarh police also said, on Monday, that there was no CCTV footage available of the incident even though there were nine such cameras installed in the route along which Varnika was stalked on Friday night. We have full faith in police and law.

During this, Singhal also said that the case is being examined by every angle and every case is different, it should not be compared to any other case. She said there was an attempt to abduct her, why was it not written in FIR? Also, the way the families are being commented on social media, the people of the family are upset too. The hashtag ChandigarhStalking was the top trend on Twitter throughout the day on Monday. This matter is not related with Subhash Barala but with an individual.

Accusing the BJP of adopting double standards, he said a few years ago a Haryana Congress leader was made to resign after an incident involving his son.

Kundu's father, Virender Kundu, who works at the Haryana tourism department, said obtaining justice for his daughter was not going to be easy. "Therefore, we did not find a possibility of adding these sections", he said.
