GOP must stop defending Trump

29 Agosto 2017, 05:06 | Bibiana Flor

That's not to say Trump's not a drag on the party - he may well be, especially in the House - but even his awful numbers probably aren't enough to spoil a very favorable map and a strong anti-liberal cultural tilt towards the GOP in red states.

Nearly immediately thereafter, Trump apparently changed his mind, arguing that everyone should marvel at the many bills he's signed into law. Democrats were unlikely to roll over just because it was attached to a VA bill. "That's an option we were looking at but the VA deadline came up and we weren't able to do that then", Ryan said.

For now, Senate and House Democrats are watching Republicans and the Trump administration wrangle over the debt ceiling, with no clear plan yet in sight.

Unencumbered by pesky press secretaries and "fake" news organizations, as he likes to call them, the president prefers communicating his message straight to the public.

"Legislative success - especially on tax reform - is the best way Republicans can protect themselves from any Trump undertow in 2018", the editors conclude. "They want the president's agenda passed".

Republicans now hold 52 seats in the Senate. "So, I'm not anxious that it's going to get done because it's going to get done", Ryan said.

Representative Tom Cole of Oklahoma, the Republican chairman of a House Appropriations subcommittee, said Mr Trump's threatened move could backfire on the party.

"I don't think a government shutdown is necessary and I don't think most people want to see a government shutdown, ourselves included", House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., told reporters after a speech on tax reform in OR this week. He said McConnell also mentioned it again on Wednesday in a statement the Senate leader issued about his "shared goals" with Trump. "We have deliberately tried to stay focused on policy, not personalities".

Here's what makes this situation so unique: Even if there's no shutdown and Trump does get his way, metals will still likely get a notable price bump...

At a rally last week in Phoenix, Trump told supporters, "If we have to close down our government, we're building that wall", and that "one way or the other, we're going to get that wall".

Overhauling the tax code is a top priority for Trump and his fellow Republicans, but they have made little progress since the president took office in January. But Trump omitted the most controversial parts of his statements, including that the violence was the responsibility of "many sides" and his comment that "very fine people" were among the white supremacists who assembled to defend a Confederate monument while chanting anti-Semitic slogans.

"I haven't had a chance to ask him about that", Sanders responded, "so I can't speak to it".

In a subsequent Twitter post, Trump also said both Mexico and Canada were being "very difficult" in talks to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement, which he called the "worst trade deal ever made", and said the USA might have to simply terminate it. "But you know what?"

"I would just advise a different style". But I won't do it tonight, because I don't want to cause any controversy, is that OK?

"When we have an announcement on what that decision is after that's completed we'll let you know", Sanders said.

"General John Kelly is doing a fantastic job as Chief of Staff".

In honor of our past and in belief in our future, for the sake of our party and our nation, we Republicans must disassociate ourselves from Trump by expressing our opposition to his divisive tactics and by clearly and strongly insisting that he does not represent what it means to be a Republican.

Song of the Day-"Mr".
