Gohmert: Senate Will Lose Majority If It Fails Health, Tax Reform

As Congress attempts to move on to tax cuts and the 2018 fiscal year budget, critics and supporters of ACA don't appear to be willing to follow. We have entertainers calling for the burning of the White House or the assassination of the president.

Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., addressed the issue Sunday on ABC's "This Week," where he was asked if he supports bipartisan legislation to continue ACA cost-sharing reduction payments - which help insurers subsidize the cost of coverage for low-income Americans. I keep encouraging the president: "don't let the Republican leaders talk you into 20, 25, because at 15, we undercut China", he said. Yet as they careened headlong down the legislative path of repeal, the party of ownership and responsibility had to realize they'd own and be responsible for what happened next.

Short and his staff are speaking mostly to Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus.

It's time we kick drug companies and insurance lobbyists out of the health-care conversation, listen to the American people, and finally work together to lower prices and make health care work better for everyone.

On Tuesday, 45 Senate Democrats issued a letter to Senate Republicans, outlining the three basic priorities a tax reform package must meet to garner their support. House members can carry on all they want. Orrin Hatch of Utah told Politico. "I have to think a lot of them just aren't aware they could get better deals buying through the exchange", he said. It also rejected Trump's urging to resurrect once more a bid to repeal Obamacare and his plaintive complaint over lack of congressional protection, as if Congress wasn't a separate branch of government.

What a shame. The U.S. tax system is such an atrocity of self-defeating complexity that it offers enormous scope for improving both fairness and efficiency - an overhaul that should please liberals and conservatives alike. Don't be shocked to see primary challengers to GOP incumbent Senate and House members next year branding those incumbents as "ObamaCare Republicans".

(CNN) - Congressional Republicans' failure to pass a health care bill is starting to hit them where it hurts: Their pocketbooks. An ongoing lawsuit from the U.S. House, brought during the Obama administration, seeks to remove the payments. As Harvard political scientist Archon Fung has argued, stable democracies require that citizens be committed to the rule of law even if they fail to achieve their preferred policies.

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) is hanging his hopes on red state Democrats up for reelection in 2018.

Just as Democrats faced the newly founded Tea Party protesters during the 2009 summer recess, GOP lawmakers were swarmed with major demonstrations immediately after heading back to their hometowns, mostly due to their agenda on health care. He said the bill reduces relations with Moscow to "an all-time and very unsafe low", adding, "You can thank Congress, the same people that can't even give us" healthcare.

Grow-up time on health care
Tax reform means broadening the tax base - by taxing income that is now untaxed, through deductions - and reducing the rates. If Trump can't get rid of all of Obamacare, it seems like he'll settle for getting rid of the parts of it that make it work.
