Brown sent a statement after the controversy arose to staff condemning Damore views and affirmed the company stance on diversity.
The reactions internally have been fierce and divisive. Fifty-six percent of its workers are White and 35 percent are Asian, while Hispanic and Black employees make up 4 percent and 2 percent of its workforce, respectively, according to the company's latest diversity report.
The Google CEO also said that there are employees who are questioning whether they can safely express their opinions, especially ones that might fall into a minority.
Damore was sacked from Google Monday after he released his 10-page manifesto titled "Google's Ideological Echo Chamber" that outlined why men are better suited for technology than women, for biological reasons.
Pichai noted that co-workers must feel free to express dissent. Conservative sites like The Federalist saw the firing as proof of Damore's point that Google does not tolerate diversity of opinion.
She continued: "But even if you accepted the idea that there are some biological differences, all researchers would assert that they're so tiny that there's no way that they can explain the kind of gender gap that's apparent at Google".
"It's kind of like Reddit, except internal to one company", says the former employee.
An employee does not have free reign to engage in political speech that disrupts the workplace, but punishing an employee for deviating from company orthodoxy on a political issue is not allowed either.
"Can someone who writes things like that interview women or black people fairly?"
In his email to Reuters on Monday, Damore suggested Google may have retaliated against him for filing a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board shortly before he was sacked. "To suggest that these kind of attitudes don't bleed into someone's day to day work seems dangerously optimistic".
Google had not replied to a request for comment from Breitbart Tech at the time this story was published. The memo criticized Google's goals to increase gender and racial diversity and also argued that biological differences made women less apt to perform in the tech industry.
Women may self-select out of the field because they internalize the stereotype that the field is "for men"; the stereotype may also make men overconfident in their fitness for the field and more inclined to pursue employment in it. Diversity is great-he really wants everyone to know how great he thinks diversity is, while simultaneously trying to undermine the programs that support it. But rather than continue to overprotect women and improve gender diversity, Google should be focusing on "arguably the most important type of diversity" which is "viewpoint diversity".
Several of the top honchos within Google also came down heavily against the memo, claiming the discriminatory charges leveled against it to be baseless.
Sexual harassment allegations have rocked Uber as well as multiple venture capital firms this year. The Left, says the author, frequently deny inherent sex difference regarding IQ.
A person at Google familiar with the matter said Damore's dismissal could not have been retaliation for his NLRB complaint because the company only learned of the complaint after Damore was sacked.
While the document has led to outrage publicly, the author says he has heard from many fellow employees who thanked him and agree with him, CNBC.com reported.
