In the run-up to the sentencing, special CBI court judge Jagdeep Singh was flown to Rohtak's Sunaria jail where Singh had been airlifted after the verdict on Friday.
Bains said the prosecution wanted the court to jail Singh for life - the maximum possible sentence for rape in India - given that there were two victims and one was a minor. He was awarded 10 years of rigourous jail term for each case. Later, his counsel clarified the position.
On Friday, 50-year-old Ram Rahim's conviction triggered deadly violence by mobs of Dera supporters in Panchkula - where the court announced its decision - Sirsa, the main base of the sect, and other towns in Haryana and neighbouring Punjab. The complaint in the cases was filed in 2002. The sentences will run consecutively, resulting in imprisonment of 20 years and fine of Rs 30 lakh.
There were no immediate reports of similar violence after Mr. Singh's sentencing on Monday, which was reported by the Press Trust of India and other news organizations.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is head of the socio-spiritual organisation Dera Sacha Sauda. Police on Saturday said Section 144 will continue for now keeping the situation in mind. "Anyone who creates trouble will be taught a lesson, like in Panchkula and Sirsa", he said.
"It is a challenging situation, but we are prepared", Kumar told reporters. We have shown restraint so far. No Dera supporters have been allowed inside the city since Friday.
Curfew has already been lifted from five of the 10 states where the prohibitory orders were imposed. Ram Rahim Singh's lawyer are set to appeal in the higher court.
According to Khatta Singh, who had stood as a witness before the CBI in December 2006, informed that there is a "secret cave" inside the ashram where arrangements like five-star hotels are in place and it is here only where Ram Rahim was sexually exploiting his female followers. His conviction led to unprecedented violence in Panchkula and Sirsa after hoodlums of the Dera went berserk resorting to large scale violence and arson.
