UK's Ban of Diesel and Petrol Cars

27 Julio 2017, 06:13 | Faron Santos

UK Government set to announce all new cars sold from 2040 must be electrified

Diesel and petrol car ban from 2040

BANNING new petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040 will not deal with the current "public health emergency" caused by illegal air pollution, the UK Government has been warned.

"Officials are studying the detail of the UK Government's plans to phase out petrol and diesel cars and, crucially, what they mean for Scotland".

The measure was announced as one of several schemes to cut down on pollution and improve air quality but many in the sector believe companies have already prepared themselves for a greener direction of travel.

As things stand, diesels and petrols could be banned in the North but available in the Republic.

The Climate Change Advisory Council is an independent, statutory body was established by legislation in 2015 and formally set up in January 2016. I'm sure the switch to electrification will solve a lot of the problems with poor air quality in heavy-traffic areas. Air quality has become a really important political issue in England. Pollution in - is getting better. We've found that in our tests, most modern cars emit more NOx (nitrogen oxide) as well as CO (carbon monoxide) than their stated Euro limit. And no doubt, this is about climate change in the long term, but right now there is a political problem.

That 2030 deadline also involves seeing 800,000 electric vehicles on our roads, according to their National Framework on Alternative Fuels Infrastructure. And it's hard to take out the pollutants.

Much concern has focused on diesel cars, embraced by Britain alongside the rest of Europe, thanks to an incentive programme and the belief that it was more efficient and less polluting - a perspective that has been rapidly dispelled, particularly in the wake of the Volkswagen emissions scandal. And diesel has been in the headlines because of this cheating.

"That would give people real choices to use clean energy".

"Decisions need to be taken now to ensure that we can keep the lights on after 2021, never mind gear up to the massive challenge of supplying the potential boom in electric vehicles in the decades to come".

The vehicle industry has already been set tough emissions targets to hit in the coming months and years, and every auto manufacturer is developing electrified systems to reduce pollution; these range from mild hybrid 48V systems that can reduce fuel consumption by 10% through to hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric cars.

Globally, 95% of electric cars are sold in only 10 countries: China, the U.S., Japan, Canada, Norway, the U.K., France, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden. You know, that is not a hundred percent.

When asked about what the United Kingdom needs to achieve these targets, Tourette said: "There is work to be done on infrastructure, that remains one of the main weaknesses, especially in central London". But Tesla is making a huge bet on this.

Environmentalists were never going to be happy with the speed and scope of Wednesday's plans, but there's enough to neuter any damaging criticism at the start of Parliament's summer break.
