Trump threat: End health payments unless there's an overhaul

Clearly still upset over the latest - and seemingly final - failure of the GOP Senate to repeal and (maybe) replace Obamacare, Trump launched into a questionable several-tweet attack on the legislative filibuster on Saturday morning. "Watch!" Trump tweeted at the time.

While they likely will take on a more celebratory atmosphere, activists shouldn't chuck their protest signs in the recycling bin just yet.

Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins joined every Senate Democrat in voting against the so-called "skinny repeal" of select parts of the Affordable Care Act.

Rep. Annie Kuster called the vote a "win for the American people who are exhausted of partisan politics getting in the way of real solutions". "Rather than engaging in partisan exercises, Republicans and Democrats should work together to address these very serious problems".

Republicans seem oblivious to those concerns, and to the danger that voters who lose access to health care could retaliate at the ballot box in the 2018 and 2020 elections. It is killing the R Party, allows 8 Dems to control country.

Yes, as South Carolina's Lindsey Graham, Mr. McCain's closest friend in the Senate, said, the bill was "woefully inadequate" and later Thursday downgraded it to "terrible" and a "fraud". The plan to use a budget reconciliation-focused plan to gut Obamacare is unlikely to garner enough support, either. From passage, the bill could go straight to the House floor for a vote, or move into a conference committee.

McCain, who was recently diagnosed with glioblastoma, traveled to the Senate in order to participate in the vote less than two weeks after having surgery to remove a brain tumor. Senators like Dean Heller, R-Nev., Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., and Rob Portman, R-Ohio, were not jazzed about the options presented to them on health care, but they went out on a limb for McConnell.

Still, Trump fumed on Twitter. But Trump's hand is not strong, and the chaos on his own staff coupled with increasing pressures from the independent investigation of the Trump campaign's interactions with Russian Federation are likely to change the face of Washington in 2018.

"Our goal ... as well as the president's goal, is to put in place a law, a system, that actually works for patients", he said on "Meet the Press".

The Senate GOP's effort to repeal and replace ObamaCare collapsed this week after a "skinny" repeal of the law failed to pass the upper chamber by a vote of 49-51. "Get there after waiting for 7 years". Republicans are challenging the payments in court, and Trump has only guaranteed them through the month.

"It's time to move on" from healthcare, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced after this week's defeat.

Trump tweets that past American leaders have allowed China to make hundreds of billions a year in trade but that "they do NOTHING for us with North Korea, just talk".
