Kelly was just 12 weeks into his tenure as head of Homeland Security, and the carping from Capitol Hill had already swirled out of control.

Kelly also battled members of Congress who complained about his approach, telling them to either rewrite the laws or "shut up".

Priebus strongly advocated for McDaniel to replace him on the committee when he joined Trump's White House. Joining me now, NPR senior Washington editor and correspondent Ron Elving.

"Reince is a fucking paranoid schizophrenic, a paranoiac", Scaramucci told The New Yorker.

Reince and Sally Priebus at President Donald Trump's inauguration.

"No, I'm pretty sure that I'm way more informed than you on this particular subject".

Priebus and Sally have two children, son Jack and daughter Grace. "I think he was right to hit the reset button, and I think it was something that I think the White House needs". How does John Kelly limit that chaos? They've been unflinching fighters for causes like border security and free markets. That title, general, stands out.

One longtime GOP operative surveying the past week's damage put it succinctly: "The White House is a snake pit". Will General Kelly bring that to an end?

President Donald Trump tweeted late Friday afternoon that he had replaced Priebus - who is from Kenosha and helped orchestrate both Walker's first victory as governor in 2010 and Trump's win last fall. The rest of the article contained seemingly unrelated information about the communications director that painted him in a negative light. He attributes this lack of loyalists to former Chief-of-Staff Reince Preibus. This was a very bad week for Trump.

But Kelly did not gel with the previous administration, and his military career ended on a sour note in January 2016 after he repeatedly clashed with the Obama White House.

"Otherwise, they should shut up and support the men and women on the front lines", Mr. Kelly said. But this is the earliest we've ever seen a chief of staff go. A Pentagon spokesman told reporters to ask the White House for details; White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters to ask the Pentagon. As the Greek Reporter notes, the family regularly attends mass at the Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Washington D.C.

The "death watch" is finally over.

Scaramucci's wife Deidre demanded a divorce when she was nine months pregnant, the New York Post reported. He chuckles at the memory of Trump saying he was a war hero only because he was captured and turns to make yet another final gesture.

Scaramucci is the personification of Trump's deep brain. Instead we have Trump, who seems preoccupied with creating a televised spectacle.

But salty language isn't the issue.

More troubling may be the turmoil we don't see.

Mr Scaramucci, a former Wall Street financier worth US$58 million (S$79 million), said goodbye with a flying kiss during his first media appearance in his new White House role.

Trump's willingness to criticize openly such a key contributor to his election has had a sobering effect on his supporters. NPR's Ron Elving. Thank you, sir.
