Residential building collapse: 3 killed, over 30 trapped, rescue operations underway

The buildings which collapsed were in extremely risky conditions and needs immediate redevelopment.

Because of a building collapsing in Ghatkopar suburb of Mumbai, 7 persons were killed and more than 30 trapped when a four-storey dilapidated residential building. He said, "Appropriate action must be taken against the culprit, whoever he is". Possessing occupation certificate (OC) of the building won't be necessary for housing societies to exercise their right to the title of plot.

According to civic officials, a nursing home was being run on the ground floor of the building.

It all happened On Tuesday morning of 25 July 2017. However, Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar did not admit that Shitap was from the party.

Hussain Dalwai, a Rajya Sabha member representing Maharashtra, said, "Only his arrest won't work". If the residents staying in such buildings fail to carry out a structural audit then the BMC will send them a notice in this regard. "The BMC has started discussion on the Development Plan and provision would be made in DC rules for the redevelopment of the old buildings", he explained. There were at least 15 families in the old building. He also said that if anything happens to the building due to repairs then the certifying consultant will be held responsible.

Shitap was yesterday booked for culpable homicide in connection with the collapse.

Devendra Fadnavis also stated that the government would soon bring a new policy to ensure structural safety of buildings during redevelopment.

The Shiv Sena's Sunil Prabhu struck a cautious note. In this Ghatkopar building collapse incident, there are around 17 people including one infant have died.

Seventeen people were killed in Sai Darshan building collapse at suburban Ghatkopar in Mumbai on Tuesday.
