Andy Murray should clean-up in straight sets to move through to the semi-finals on his home court, but Querrey certainly has the potential to push him to four or five sets. A clash of big server and big hitter against defensive counterpuncher, it should be a great match.
"When you're having issues a few days before a big event, it's frustrating", said Murray who has now made the last-eight in 24 of his last 26 appearances at the majors. The most recent match was in this years Australian Open, a match Murray won in straight sets.
Wimbledon's Manic Monday, when all the men's and women's last-16 matches are played in one day, is unique among tennis's four Grand Slams. Querrey, the U.S. 24th seed who knocked out Novak Djokovic in 2016, made the quarter-finals for a second successive year with a 5-7, 7-6 (7/5), 6-3, 6-7 (13/11), 6-3 over unseeded Kevin Anderson of South Africa. He also conquered Nadal in the final in Acapulco.
Berdych will next face either three-time champion Novak Djokovic or Adrian Mannarino in the quarter-finals. Querrey has won 10 of his last 13 matches on grass court. The Federer-Raonic victor will take on either three-time champion Novak Djokovic, 30, or 2010 runner-up Tomas Berdych, 31, in the semifinals. "I never even anxious about that".
IN a crude way, this match could be billed as "Art vs War" such is the contrast in the way these two players go about their business. Murray has lost his last three five-set matches overall.
"That is the best I have hit the ball", said Murray, who came into the tournament dogged by a hip injury.
Her thoughts were echoed by the men's World No.1, Andy Murray, who acknowledged that the scheduling was weighted in favour of male players. Like against Fabio, I hit three or four in four sets.
Murray won the first and third sets on Centre Court, but Querrey won the other two to even the score at 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 1-6. Anderson battled hard throughout the match, particularly in the fourth set tiebreak when he saved a number of match points.
How do they match up?
"Yes, they can get upset, or the others can upset them, but if they play 100 times they are going to win more than half and that's because the package is a little more complete".
Murray has reached the last eight of this Wimbledon and he described his current mental state as "calm". If he can break any momentum for Murray and capitalise on the Brit's second serves, he could be in with a chance.
Should Murray make it all the way to a fourth final, a rematch of his tear-jerking 2012 loss to Federer is likely to be on the cards. With a place in the semi-finals at stake, Murray would have said "Thanks very much" before the tournament began.
Meanwhile, Kerber said she was "really surprised" to be put on Court Two, admitting: 'I think it was a good match from both of us on a high level. He has also enjoyed the easier route into the quarterfinals and has more quality than Querrey.
"I had Rafa going to the final to face Roger this year".
