McCain's Surgery Puts Senate Health Care Reform Bill in Doubt

19 Julio 2017, 10:25 | Bibiana Flor

Senator John McCain is said to be recovering at home following minimally invasive surgery last week to remove a blood clot form above his left eye. Its assistant professor of neurosurgery, Dr. Nrupen Baxi while speaking to one of the media houses said that the senator was slowly recovering and has lately been in high spirits.

Dr. Philip E. Stieg, the chairman of neurological surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine and the neurosurgeon in chief at NewYork-Presbyterian, said it seemed a good sign that Mr. McCain was able to go home so quickly. "In the meantime, his Mayo Clinic care team will not be conducting interviews".

However, medical experts tell The New York Times that McCain's surgery was more serious than previously reported and that the recovery time may be longer. The clot was discovered during a routine physical. "In this particular case, with a prior diagnosis of melanoma, the blood clot and brain (using imaging) need to be examined to make sure that this is not from the melanoma spreading".

A Republican Party official is facing criticism after she enthusiastically shared an article calling for the death of Sen.

"Certainly, blood clots in the brain can cause neurologic deficits", Sampson pointed out.

In 2000, McCain was diagnosed with melanoma. Records of his medical exams released in 2008 when he was the GOP candidate for president showed that he has had precancerous skin lesions removed and had an early stage squamous cell carcinoma, an easily cured skin cancer, removed.

Graham says McCain "wants to come back so bad he can't stand it", and adds, "I think he would walk back if they would let him".

McCain's office was not immediately available to comment on when the lawmaker would return to Washington. In a Senate divided 52-48 between Republicans and Democrats, McConnell can lose no more than two votes and still prevail.

That said, it is more than a bit ironic that Mitch McConnell is delaying the healthcare vote so John, he assumes, will be there to support a bill that will take healthcare away from millions of our fellow Americans.

"Elaine and I, along with the entire Senate family, wish John the very best and wish him a speedy recovery", majority leader Sen.
