"Two years ago Chelsea finished 10th; that can not happen again", Conte told reporters after Chelsea lost 2-1 to Inter Milan in a pre-season International Champions Cup game in Singapore. Morata came on in the 63rd minute and played on the left flank of a frontline that had Michy Batshuayi in the middle and Willian on the right.
"Morata is just starting to train with us", Conte told reporters. The English club lost to Bayern five days ago, and will want to get out of the ICC with something to be proud of, and ending the one ideal record in the competition in Asia would be a good way of doing just that.
Conte has already moved to strengthen his squad further during the off-season, bringing in the likes of Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Antonio Rudiger, and he is convinced his side must be considered title favourites.
As you can see in the following Twitter reaction, they've been slamming Conte on social media for making such a silly claim after playing Morata out of position.
The Italian boss also sought to explain Chelsea's lackluster performance on Saturday, blaming it on the Blues tiring preseason schedule in Singapore.
Conte appears to have the possibility of a hat-trick on his mind as he said: "Two coaches were sacked from Chelsea and Leicester after winning the League".
'We hope for them to recover very well, ' added Conte.
He did however rate their entire stay in the island nation as a positive one.
'If you saw me as a footballer, I always showed a great passion, ' said Conte. "We have to continue to work hard, it doesn't change".
"I want to thank all of our fans because they were fantastic".
The most frequent criticism of the way in which Chelsea handle their young players is that, despite being bought as one of the most promising young talents in football, they are never blooded into the regular line-up. "We had some anxiety, but the response was good, with attacking and defending".
