Lewis Hamilton: Mercedes and Ferrari now level
18 Julio 2017, 08:15 | Cornelio Vivanco
The Frenchman missed both NY rounds to race in the World Endurance Championship for Ferrari.
Vettel was able to crawl into the pits for repairs in time to ensure he still finished seventh to collect the points that kept him top heading into the next race in Hungary.
"At the moment I'm loving driving", said Hamilton.
"We had a tiny little blister developing and he warned us, but then we didn't know whether it was maybe [caused by] some debris on track", Wolff told Sky Sports.
But the real drama played out behind him, with Kimi Raikkonen in second suffering a puncture in the closing stages, before team-mate Vettel experienced the same fate soon after.
"I think the situation in the drivers market depends on Sebastian Vettel", said Horner. His agent Sabine Kehm said in December 2016: "Michael's health is not a public issue, and so we will continue to make no comment in that regard".
Hamilton had been asked about his future in the immediate televised press conference after Sunday's race. Meanwhile, Daniel Ricciardo drove from P19 on the grid to a fifth-place finish in an inspiring run.
Now Hamilton is back on top of the podium, for a record-equaling fifth time at his home race. The pendulum's swayed our way this weekend.
Wolff recognised that the Italian team was one every racer dreamed of driving for, but added that Hamilton had the fastest vehicle at present, while the dynamic in the team was "the best".
"There was so much negativity ahead of the race, with people questioning how I prepared", Hamilton, who emulated Britain's two-time world champion Jim Clark with five British Grand Prix victories here, added.
Although Lewis Hamilton could decide to retire come Christmas, the championship hopeful says that will depend on his frame of mind at the time.
"The support has been incredible this weekend", he said.
Just a few weeks after team boss Toto Wolff described Hamilton's F1 W08 as "a bit of a diva" because it was proving to be so hard to set up, the three-time champion was purring with satisfaction about the car's potential. At the same time, Valtteri Bottas was in contention for the podium after being forced to start in ninth to serve an engine change penalty.
Since Hamilton rejected the invitation, Valtteri Bottas was the only Mercedes driver to attend.
Vettel also said he could take no pleasure from the fact that the fans had clearly enjoyed his early race scrap with Verstappen, who had passed him at the start. Max Verstappen secured fourth for Red Bull after his team feared he would encounter the same problem as the Ferraris and pitted him for a fresh set of tyres with just two laps remaining.
