Rand Paul, predicted the delay would strengthen critics' position by giving them more time to mobilize against the bill.

Two Republican senators - Susan Collins of ME and Rand Paul of Kentucky - have already said they will not support a motion to proceed to floor debate on the legislation.

Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell said he was deferring action on the measure as Mr McCain recovers at his home in Arizona.

The bill's dramatic cuts to the Medicaid program are a significant concern for governors like Sandoval as well as moderate senators such as Susan Collins, R-Maine. The state executives, some of whom accepted expanded Obamacare Medicaid subsidies, have argued against the inclusion of deep cuts to the program. "It would affect our rural hospitals and our nursing homes".

"So you heard Vice President Pence say that this bill provides for the most vulnerable, improves Medicaid, and will lead to better outcome".

"They're trying to make it legal to sell other insurance policies that don't have the regs", he said about the amendment crafted by Sen. In recent days GOP leaders have expressed optimism that they were getting closer to a version that could pass the Senate.

Collins has said she plans to vote against the bill, reiterating the position in the Sunday interview. He needed every vote to get the bill passed.

Supporters of the bill argued that while it does not completely repeal Obamacare, it would eliminate numerous law's regulations, including a requirement that every American be insured.

He aired his grievances in a Thursday op-ed in The Washington Times, headlined "Crony Capitalism Isn't a Right, So Why Does Senate Healthcare Bill Give Insurance Companies the Right to a Bailout?" Arkansans have been among at least two past groups of demonstrators arrested for taking protests to the Senate office building. "And the more. everybody's going to discover that it keeps the fundamental flaw of Obamacare", Paul said Sunday on "Face the Nation". Buy an insurance plan that breaks the bank, or decide to go without coverage, violating the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate and depriving insurance markets of customers who could contribute to those markets' stability. McConnell is under increasing pressure to ditch the amendments offered by Senator Ted Cruz that throw out numerous "mandated" coverages that insurance companies are forced to offer with every Obamacare policy. Analyses of the earlier version of the Senate bill found it would result in more than 20 million additional uninsured Americans over a decade compared to current law.

"I'm not willing to trade Medicaid reform for an insurance company bailout, insurance company entitlement", he said.
