FACT CHECK: Trump's health care timeline is off

Republican's seven-years-and-counting crusade to repeal the Affordable Care Act did not end with Friday morning's nail-biter of a failed vote.

Republicans have vowed to scrap Obamacare, or the Affordable Care Act, since it was ratified by former President Barack Obama in 2010.

Mr. McCain, who travelled from Arizona immediately after a surgery to remove a brain tumour last week, walked into the chamber at 1.29 am on Friday, and voted "no" with a thumbs down sign. But this morning, he reversed course and cast the deciding "no" vote, joining Republicans Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and quashed their party's hopes of undoing Obamacare. As soon as McCain joined Republican Senators Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski in saying "no" to the GOP's plan, Twitter freakin' lost it.

The failed repeal means average premiums will continue to skyrocket, leaving people with few, if any, available health insurance options and facing penalties if they don't buy insurance, he said.

He pulled the bill from the floor thereafter.

Trump tweeted after the GOP plan was defeated that the next step should be "let Obamacare implode, then deal". Specifically, the president said the three had "let the American people down", according to the BBC.

Vice President Mike Pence was awaiting to vote in case of a tie, as had happened in the past.

ObamaCare is one of such as he has gone all out to fight for its repeal but only met a brick wall when the repeal was repealed.

The "skinny repeal" amendment - withdrawing only the most unpopular provisions mandating individuals and employers to buy health insurance and tax medical devices - was a last-ditch effort by the Republican leadership hobbled by defections. "They look like fools and are just wasting time ...", the USA president wrote.

"Its time to turn the page".

"We are not celebrating, we are relieved", said Senator Chuck Schumer Senate Minority Leader.

Republican Senators Lindsey Graham, Bill Cassidy and Dean Heller met with Trump on Friday on a plan that would task states - rather than the federal government - with crafting health care plans.

Rep. Bill Foster, D-Naperville, who represents the 11th Congressional District, said he hopes Republicans will work with Democrats to strengthen the ACA.

"Congressman James Clyburn said it was now up to the president to enforce the existing healthcare law, since Republicans were unable to repeal it".

"Its time to move on. We must do the hard work our citizens expect of us and deserve".
