Connecticut's Sen. Blumenthal wants to question Trump Jr. at committee

Donald Trump in hot water following revelations that during the 2016 presidential campaign, he met with Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya in hopes of obtaining incriminating information about Hillary Clinton.

Trump twice asked Putin whether Russian Federation tried to hack the election during the meeting and was reportedly appeared satisfied with Putin's denial.

"If he comes before our committee - and we'll subpoena him if necessary - then obviously it'd be appropriate for anybody to get into anything that went on at that meeting, since he was at that meeting", Grassley said.

"All of it", responded Trump Jr.

Asked on Wednesday if he knew his son was meeting with lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya in June past year, the president said: "No, that I didn't know until a couple of days ago when I heard about this".

Trump claimed that the allegations of collusion between Russian Federation and his presidential campaign were made up by Democrats as an excuse for losing the election. "Zero happened from the meeting, and honestly I think the press made a big deal over something that many people would do", he added.

The New York Times reported Wednesday that Kushner faces scrutiny as he not only works in the White House (unlike Trump Jr.) but also that he did not mention the meeting on forms he filled out for a background check to obtain a security clearance.

Akhmetshin told the AP the meeting was "not substantive" and he "actually expected more serious" discussion.

CLARIFICATION: An earlier version of this story misstated whom Donald Trump Jr. had emailed.

Lawyers for President Donald Trump have raised the possibility that the request for the meeting could have been part of a smear campaign against him, trying to tie him and his campaign to Russian Federation. That concern is "certainly something we want to explore", along with the Trump campaign's data analytics, Schiff said. "We've got to get to the bottom of it", Wyden told reporters.

And although President Trump may now be standing behind his son's actions, all of that may change as evidence of collusion grows closer to the president's own inner-circle. It was a short meeting.

Trump called on a man who identified himself as a journalist from "Phoenix TV of China" after Macron asked for a final question from an American journalist at the news conference.

"I want to know all about the meeting that took place with the Russian foreign-agent lawyer on June 9, all of their recollections of who said what", Blumenthal said, adding that the Judiciary Committee's investigation is bipartisan. The email was to Rob Goldstone, who represents the son of an Azerbaijani-Russian businessman close to Russian government.
