Congressman Smith Urges Patient with ACA "Repeal and Replace"

Bill Cassidy (R-La.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) - as a way to get him on board. Lee Nunn escaped jail time by the skin of his teeth for involvement in the Watergate burglary; Snyder honed to a science campaigning against the media, so favored by Republicans today.

Cruz says President Donald Trump's message to lawmakers on health care is clear: "Get it done".

Republicans need to accept that expanded insurance coverage, whether through Medicaid or subsidized policies, is the new American normal.

"Failure is not an option", Texas Sen.

If our spineless GOP would have followed our laws, the "family run business" wouldn't be running the White House. I am not going to own it. They want the savings to go toward tax reform, which the savings from necessary Medicaid reforms will help buffer. Which leaves the rest of us wondering what the heck is going to happen to the health-care market. If so, that would leave McConnell with the unsavory choice of finding some way to regain conservative support for yet another revision of BCRA or, worse yet, overturning the parliamentarian's ruling on the Senate floor. It is unclear what they would do if that language was removed from the bill. The Senate is now considering multiple ways to fulfill this longstanding pledge.

This new normal may not sit well with the party's most conservative members. "If they feel betrayed and have no reason to vote, they won't vote", he said. John McCain, R-Arizona, has said. Sick people are not willing buyers; dying people have no bargaining leverage. Among Republicans, 27 percent want immediate repeal, while 54 percent favor repealing the law when a replacement is ready.

"I'm not yet decided", Sen. But if you think those considerations will motivate them, you may not be familiar with the political stupidity and outright malevolence that characterizes this administration.

"I think it's wonderful that they can't pass anything, because it keeps [healthcare costs] from being jacked up", said Norma, a 63-year-old retired factory worker and lifelong McArthur resident.

And for those who say, give Trump a chance, it is worth pointing out that, at similar points in their respective presidencies, Trump has signed fewer bills into his law than his predecessors. But he has also been of little utility during the process and hasn't seized the bully pulpit to sell the bill.

He coined the phrase that he would rip out Obamacare "root and branch", though he had no idea what might replace it. Republican aides stressed the group was soon opened to any GOP senator who wanted to participate.

Do any of these bills have the support of 50 senators?

"I'm hopeful that we'll see the Senate try to regroup, look at the issue, and try to work it out", said Rep. Steve Russell (R-OK).

There could also be support coming from outside Capitol Hill.

"In my experience of 37 years in public service I have never experienced a time when somebody stopped a leader on a motion to proceed", said Sen. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, said on Thursday.

MITCH MCCONNELL: Well, it's pretty obvious we've had difficulty in getting 50 votes to proceed. "Obamacare was imposed on our country seven years ago".

It was the same thing with estimates for two new versions this week.

One missing ingredient in the whole agenda is presidential leadership.

Female Republicans' concerns were much the same as their male colleagues' concerns about the legislation.

Senate Republican leaders originally blocked all five GOP women out of negotiations for their health care bill. Although the comment was out of context, Republicans have dredged it up ever since to bludgeon Ms. Pelosi and the Democrats.

If Republicans fail to resolve their differences, they may have to turn to Democrats for a compromise effort to shore up existing law.

At least Collins, an ideological outlier in the Republican Conference, has been consistent.

What is killing the Republican reform effort is the fatuous Congressional Budget Office projections that some 20 million people will lose their health insurance under virtually any GOP plan. It found that average premiums for the benchmark plan would be 25% lower in 2026 than under Obamacare. Over the weekend, conversations are expected to continue over what bill Republicans should actually put up on the floor.

"We'd be better off just to vote for repeal and force the two sides to get together in a bipartisan way and pass something where you have a transition period", Corker said Thursday. Additionally, 51 percent of voters said Trump would not factor into their midterm election vote.

The path to finding 50 Republican votes was a daunting task that has been made even more hard with the likely and unfortunate absence of Sen.
