Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said the government made assurances that the India-China border stand-off would be resolved diplomatically.
Earlier in the day, senior ministers Sushma Swaraj, Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval held a meeting ahead of their briefing to opposition leaders on the border stand-off with China and the Kashmir situation.
AIADMK leader A Navaneethakrishnan said the foreign secretary admitted that China has encroached the Doklam territory of Bhutan.
History says the seeds of the India-Bhutan friendship were sown in 1958 when then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru visited Bhutan that shares a 605-km long border with India and 470-km with China.
Azad also said that all opposition parties have assured the government that when it comes to territorial integrity of the country they all stand united.
All the parties at the meeting condemned the July 10 terror attack on the Amarnath pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir that left seven people dead and almost 20 injured.
On the China issue, sources said that the government maintained that it wanted good relations with its neighbours but did not want to compromise on the country's security and strategic interests.
Giving assurance that parties will rise above politics, the importance of India and China to remain engaged through diplomacy was underlined in the meeting.
O'Brien, while speaking to the media, said the government didn't give the Opposition the answers it was looking for.
Pakistan's Foreign Office, meanwhile, said teh country's government believed in resolving all issues through dialogue. "Those channels will continue to be used".
Another resident, Dorji Tshering said the ongoing standoff on the Bhutan border between Indian and Chinese troops is a matter of concern. Indian apprehension is that any boundary deal between Thimpu and Beijing will not only impact Indian security but also impinge on its own negotiating position with China on the boundary issue. "Everybody promised support to the government", he said. However, Yechury suggested that New Delhi was "irritating" China through its recent moves to "appease" the US.
The stand-off between India and China is a outcome of the latter trying to disturb the status-quo at the India-China-Bhutan tri-junction in Doklam.
